Next one will be blonde...NOW FINISHED !!!

Update

Hi all

Got to shoot that one today. Only some plinking on cans at 30 meters or so, but every one of the 19 shot did hit a can, far better than my other Lee on which I guess the barrel is shot.

Official range report to follow later this year, but I think it is a winner !!!

Thanks for the comments. I used this for a time with a scope on it, but it is now back to her better look and is used only with the iron sights

Was old Enfield furniture stained at all? What accounts for the variation in colour from dark brown to almost red - is that purely a function of the wood, or does the raw linseed oil have a hand in the colouration?

Great job!

Just spent the last hour reading over this thread and looking at the pics, now that was a work of pure craftsmanship. As to the commercial viability of such a project, even at minimum wage the cost would be prohibitive! Truly a labour of love, and very informative to anybody contemplating such a project.

Different woods

Not sure if they were ever stained, but different woods have different colours- Maple, light blond,
Beech- reddish,light brown
Walnut- darker brown to almost black.
Amount and age of linseed oil finish will have an effect on colour too, though over the last hundred plus years probably every finish imaginable has been applied by owners all over the world..

I just came across this thread, and WOW!!! Very nice craftsmanship! Thank you for sharing the process with us, and for all the excellent photos,. I'm getting some ideas for a winter project to 'renew' the wood on my smle. Thank you for the inspiration, keep up the great work! :)
