Do you prefer Binocular or Monocular for head/helmet mounted?
I got my Sightmark Bino kit in and it works pretty well for entry level NVG. As noted by others, it is not really usable with a rifle in proper shoulder position while using a red dot. I was able to push the rifle out in front of me, off my shoulder and sight through the RDS, but nothing sustainable. The laser works perfectly carrying the rifle a little low on the shoulder, and looking over the top. It is surprisingly easy to shoot this way, I expected it to be more difficult and much slower.
I hadn't anticipated the single focal plane problems that come with binos until mentioned here. Even then it is difficult to comprehend fully until you are wearing them and trying to maneuver around obstacles or do something close at hand which requires fine motor skills. I've had the binos for a few days already, but I just received a monocular kit today, and going to test it out tonight. I know monocular has it's own problems but I'd like to try them both before returning one. I'm also going to bring some pistols to test with FO, Tritium and micro RDS sights, using both mono and bino.
I picked up an Insight/Eotech LAM-200HL IR Illuminator/laser. It is an older discontinued model, but BNIB old stock that was never used, and works perfectly. I couldn't find much info on the interweb, but I believe it was military issue and not civilian marketed when it was manufactured. It has IR light and laser, visible light and laser. Multiple switches and options, ATPIAL type pressure switch compatible and I have a Surefire SR-D-IT Dual Switch on route now. I'll post a photo once the switch arrives on the slow boat from Alberta.
