Night vision questions

Gen2 will do the job, I have two new gen2 PVS4's that were made in Washington State
Bought them direct from the factory,
I have two Russian night vision scopes that are real close and they mount on SKS rifles besides
the other Russian Military rifles, smaller and nicer to use

What are you looking for Gen2+ or Gen3?? If not picky, a Pvs14 Gen2+ starts at about $2400. Has an Ekran tube and the specs are not great. $3500 gets you a PVS14 with Photonis Echo Gen2+ tube and much better specs. I have a PVS14 Photonis Echo WP/AG/MG coming Tuesday.

PVS14 Gen2+with Photonis Echo tube
Specs:
FOM 1952
SNR 29.57
RES 66
EBI .15

PVS14 Gen2+ with Ekran tube
Specs:
FOM 952
SNR 19
RES 50.1
EBI .6

US$ right? Not bad. Where to order? and how long for delivery?

Canadian Funds. Prices listed on the Alpha Optic website. They are in Ontario. When looking at the Prices, they list 5 different models for the PVS14. Their PVS14 does not come with a mount or hard case. Helps them keep the prices lower than competitors.

Gen2+ Cat3 = Ekran tube MG
Gen3 Cat3 = Ekran tube MG
Gen2+ Cat2 = Photonis Echo WP/AG/MG
Gen3 Cat1 = Harder Digital tube AG/MG
Gen3 Cat0= High spec Harder Digital tube AG/MG

I don't have any hands on with the Harder Digital tubes or the Gen3 Ekran other than seeing videos and photos. I should have the Echo tube in hand tomorrow depending on delivery.

Gen 3+ is just marketing bull#### and is not an official designation. Gen 4 was at one point an official army designation for filmless tubes with a gallium aresenide photocathode, but the designation was removed because early Litton filmless tubes had extreme durability issues. Now thin film and filmless tubes are just usually referred to as Gen 3 thin film and filmless. You don't really specify autogated because its assumed that a thin film or filmless tube is autogated.

Damn !! You mean I'm not supposed to zero my PEQ4 and aim with it ?!?! I better tell my Batallion's Ops that were doing it wrong... According to some guys that fixes opticals systems including frigggin lasers and equipment !!'

Maybe you don't get to use it but it is used it for its intended purpose which is "aiming at targets" and sometimes designating/indicating position.

As someone that has spent hundreds of hours using and operating under NVG and IR laser (which we called a NAD Night Aiming Device) old mate cant be more wrong. We always had NVG and NAD every exercise and multiple operations (Infantry). Never was a tube damaged due to IR lights or NADs being used(unless on the odd occasion someone pointed the ir laser direct into the tube, never seen or heard of it). Yes unlike the movies they don't stay permanently on. You would get on target, pressure switch on to confirm point of aim and neutralise the target, then release the pressure switch and it turns off. We practiced and used this SOP extensively. And also use it as a target reference point.

Yup, I have a very similar experience with this kind of gear. Although we don't use them a lot since we left Kandahar, mainly due to lack of serviceable equipment...

Good old days

We where lucky enough to be a lot better funded then the Canadian forces, but is what it is. But 100 percent the IR lasers are used for range shoots and real life. Good to See the your REME and our RAEME are not much different in having no clue about combat outside the wire. when did you do your ghan tour, i was 10/11.

Hey 90yjgimp,

What are your thoughts on the units you ordered from Alpha (Gen 2+ Ekran and Photonis Echo WP?)?
Any feed back on the quality of the units and would you recommend?

Cheers
