no moose hunting in area 5 in BC

I've taken a few moose out of there before. I found more problems with the whites from town than anything else. They think its their moose and coast guys like me can't come up there and shoot their moose, even with an LEH.

I think the timber is over-harvested. I believe that there is an all time low in the moose population. I stopped hunting there 10 years ago. seems a shame.

WTF! Non Billyboy and Grinder Hunters will be "kindly escorted out" . Someon get down there go moose hunting and put the RCMP/Conservation Officer Service on speed dial. It is Illegal in the province of B.C to interfer with a legal hunt and it is also called Kidnapping when you are escorted where you do not want to go.

what i find interesting is that there are 4 or 5 other bands that did NOT sign that letter , yet are also being told they can not hunt on their on " traditional hunting grounds " , because of overlapping area's .

I find this the attitude of most "northern" residents. This is there hunting area and no "lower main landers" should be there, hunting "there" game. Keep the gun handy to control predators/thugs!

So you have turned this issue into what? A sob session cause you could'nt make chums with the locals. The locals did not threaten to disrupt your hunt nor did they threaten to 'escort' you anywhere.

Maybe work on your approach a bit in 15 years of hunting B.C it has been maybe 1 in 10 local resident hunters who have made me feel like they would rather I move on (who can blame them they are hunting not trolling face book for friends). The other 9 have always been easy going. Now if you want to count the stand offish non local resident hunters just look for an RV village in the bush and try and to wish someone a 'good day'.

usually ya reap what ya sow.

And no guns are not got controlling thugs and thinking/blabbing that way is a quick way to loose them.

If there is no general open season for moose in zone 5, I hope outfitters are not alloted x number of tags to guide non resident hunters. control the wolves and bears and there will be more moose.

The Moose numbers are definitely down and the wolves are out of control. But, there are also stories circulating of one FN person shooting 90 moose last year. I really don,t know what the solution is here, but it surely isn't excluding non local residents from a legal hunting season.

There seemed to be good survival in the Bulkley/Skeena/Babine area this winter for moose. Lots of wolf tracks as well. Moose love the aftermath of clear cutting as it opens up a lot of browse for a number of years around here. Chilcotin is more arid so maybe a different succession in that area after logging. Those Chilcotin winters can be mean. Our grouse numbers are low but everything else seems up.

You mean the ones that are set up at the beginning of a road, in a fashion that blocks the entire road so nobody can get by?

I am shocked by the response on here to the FN announcement.
DD seems to be the only one who has fathomed just what this is and how important it is.
There is no closed season in that area. The hunting regulatins state there is an open season, and I presume they have issued LEH permits.
Only the Native Indians have stated we can't hunt in that area.
This is the tip of the iceberg. If they get away with this, we can kiss goodbye to BC hunting in a very few years.
It started about ten years ago, when a notice was put in the hunting regulation synopsis, that any hunters planning to go into certaain areas in GMA7, should first contact the First Nations board office in the area, to see where they could hunt.
It continued in the Dease lake area only two or three years ago, when hunters with LEH permits were refused entry to their area, by the Natives.
DD, you have it right. This issue should be forced.

The way I read the letter indicated that local FN and the FN operated guide outfitters could still hunt moose. So therefore it is not about conservation (I don't believe it ever was), it is just about control.

H4831 is bang on.

Weird last time I looked the provinvial government was in charge of deciding wether or not the moose population is low. I would say to hell with them and hunt there if it were allowed.

hunting bans

this is no different than the guide and outfitters implementing a ban against the use of hunting with an atv in 5-13 some years ago, this is the start of it all, it w ould be interesting to find out who started all of this! on that long previous thread, curt from chilliwack hit the nail on the head, the hunters of b.c. have got to stand together or else the rich non residents will be the only ones hunting our resources with their friends. wolves are a serious problem, what are the experts doing about it, they issue lehs for cows, things have got to change!!
