No Service Rifle @ Mission Gun Club

I was at Longshot's course last year too. Learned a lot and had a great time. Vokes last May was still overwhelming for a greenshot like me, but at least I had some clue thanks to him.

Longshot, is there a registration or wait list for your next course? I will gladly prepay for a spot.

Yeah I had a great time at Ryan's course.

Love to attend a more advanced skills day or SR Part 2 or whatever you decide to put on, Ryan.

Hopefully we can get it going in mission!Once they see that we are both serious and safe, things will pick up quickly.Mission could quickly become the center for service rifle in the lowermainland.I'm sure it would bring many new memberships out there as well.I would join up too if we had a good range to practice on.

After 18 months of seeing the executive plod along and delay my attempts to introduce a service rifle discipline I have given up. I've been beaten by the Fudds. I am letting my membership expire at the end of the year. I recently picked up an affiliate membership at the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club which will be upgraded to a full membership at the end of December. They are a more open-minded club and after licking my wounds will try to be more involved with my new club.

For those that have followed this thread for so long I wish to apologize for my lack of success. If anyone else wants to take this on you are more than welcome. I am tired of banging my head against a wall!

Thats too bad. SR is a discipline that has room to grow.

Going up against Fudds is like mixing a jug of oil and water. You can shake things up and be happy with your progress, but you come back in 24 hours and everything is like where you started.

That’s too bad and thanks for the effort. I to will be letting my membership expire and will also be joining Abby. I could say a lot but I better leave it alone. Please post if and when you get SR going at Abby.

I have previously posted in this thread ( July 09 ) but since that time I have seen "fuddery" increase at Mission.

I have seen a young couple ( like we don't need young people or females to do any shooting - let's keep this sport only for middle aged guys like me cos there is a real future in that demographic ! ) told off for no apparent reason and personally being 'bollocked' about loading more than one round in the magazine of my .22LR Savage bolt gun ( try loading one of those single shot ) I have really cut back on my visits there. The final straw for me was, on another occassion, a couple of months ago having some total friken moron tell me my TRG was a prohibited military rifle ! I did articulate my concerns about the club in a letter to the club president but did not even get the courtesy of a reply. Suffice to say I have decided that, while I really like the 300 yard range, I'm also going to let my membership lapse.

I have been a member at Mission for the past 10 years and have had more than my fill. This was my last kick at the can. I will be sending an e-mail to the executive explaining why I am not renewing my membership and have given up on my service rifle proposal.

I have been going to Abbotsford for the past 4 months and it is by a far a more progressive and friendlier place to shoot.

Update, here's the e-mail I sent to certain members of the executive:

Hi Iain,

I have been a member of the Mission and District Rod and Gun Club for the past 10 years. For the past year and a half I have tried to introduce a service rifle discipline with next to no progress and very little signs of making any inroads. While you have been progressive and encouraging of this endeavor I cannot say the same for others.

Overall I have found Mission to become increasingly more hostile towards those who wish to safely shoot semi-automatic rifles. In political times where we as responsible firearms owners need to stand shoulder to shoulder in order to protect our rights and priviledges as well as encourage others to take part in all of our shooting sports I find Mission does little to encourage this.

I will not be renewing my membership at the end of this calender year and have a membership at the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club, an organization that chooses to embrace all disciplines in a more positive environment.

A cautionary note, others feel the same way I do and will be leaving. How many, I cannot say. But I would invite all of you to sign up on a Canadian Firearms forum known as Canadiangunnutz.com and see how many negative comments and experiences have been posted about your club over the years. I would have to say it is a reputation that is well deserved at this point.

Too bad really. If they had their #### together they could have easily had another 30-50 members and the benefit of having the military train at their facilities.Oh well I guess Poco will get all the benefit. They have been great allowing me to train there whenever I need.Sure paid off this year!

The summer newsletter had the rifle chair saying they were not a paramilitary organization and they didn't want a bunch of rambos running around. It's a shame really...

Reading the first page of this thread, and not looking at post date got excited owning a new XCR, and living 10mins from the range. Oh well, guess Ill join abby.

Sounds like a bunch of idiots out there.Since when are military shooting teams a bunch of Rambos?I guess they don't let police train there either because they don't want a bunch of dirty Harry's running around?Having police and military using your club only brings a validity to it in times when people are questioning why there should be shooting ranges at all.Talk about poor attitudes and short sightedness.

I stopped being a member there a couple years ago also, for the exact same reason as homer76. I am not a spray and prayer, a rambo, or a paramilitary :jerkit: but was interested in practicing for service rifle (in addition to shooting single shot boltguns).
I had brought several new shooters out there when I was still a member, but no one was interested in their 'club' after a couple Fudd experiences.
It boggles my mind how much revenue this likely costs that organization.

Such a waste. I joined Mission this year for the 300 yard range. I'm shooting a bolt gun and pistols, and my son brings his .22s. They have a great facility for every dicipline and seem to be very family friendly.

The fact is they have an extreme level of fuddery, noticable within my first few visits. No need to go into details on this as I'm sure you can imagine.
If y'all aint sportin 5 lbs of belt buckle and shootin yer 30ott6 ya best mosy on down the road, cos Mission aint fer ya.

Needless to say, I will not rejoin.

On a personal note, to the RO who suggested my 12 year old son shoot another day so the hunters can use the stall, and you didn't like my reply of "NO" I raise a gesture in your direction meaning, F**K OFF YOU PIECE OF SHYT, he is a member just like me.

On a second note, I will say that Wayne is an awesome RO, he went out of his way for both my kid and I, to the point of lending his own sand bags.

edit: As frustrated as I am with this club it's not fair for me to condemn the whole club. I don't want to cover everyone with the same blanket. Both my son and I have had good experiences at Mission too. Including the gentleman who let my son handle his bp collection, and the other guy with all the lever guns. He'll remember that forever. And thanks to Wayne for helping a couple newbs.

peace...
