No Service Rifle @ Mission Gun Club

I quit the Mission club for the same reasons as Homer76 a couple years ago. I was a member in Mission for 18 years but I grew tired of the bad attitude and the single shot rule on the rifle range. I always liked Ian but the other guys were miserable to deal with. Aside from trying to discourage people with semi autos from joining there is absolutely no reason for the single shot rule. Actually they've admitted as much to me in the past.

The new shooters that I brought up to Mission liked the 300 yard range but disliked the negative atmosphere and single shot rule. I joined Abbotsford this year and that place is amazing. The people (both the club members and the executive) are nothing short of awesome. Rob has done a great job there.
 
Man i hate hearing all the bad press when it comes to the Mission Club. I have yet to have someone come up to me when I'm shooting my M14...and to be honest I can't wait for the day to happen so I can educate the a-hole on what I am doing. Shooting is shooting and the club belongs to all of us who are members....its not a place for one small group of guys to run us semi shooters out of there. I'm diggin in and will be shooting my semi proudly...if anyone wants to tag along lemme know when you're goin

Looks to me like we have some roadblocks to getting some Service Rifle matches going here. The way I see things going for the club is a 300m range... that means running matches 1-4 and 5-8 of the classic matches 1-12 from the Old CFSAC or current NSCC (minus the 400m and 500m stages).

Are there target lifters down below in the butts? Is Mission 300m range a gallery style range ? If it isn't then this discussion of Service Rifle matches and the single shot rule are a moot point.

Thoughts from the Mission members?

You are correct on the match set; that was the intent, when the current pistol chair was looking at getting this to happen, w/o the thread here.

It is a 'gallery style' range, but rundowns are possible (in the sand), and that was the intent. Range closed for others, during SR events, obviously. There were some issues w/ the firing point vrs loc block backwall of the butts, from the 200- 300m target line, if I recall.
With the failure of this endevour, we may pick around the edges, yet again.

Problem is getting butts qualified RSO's, with everyone's current workload.

The 'one shot' rule has been replaced w/ a 'no rapid fire' rule, yet to be codified. Obviously, exceptions would be permitted, similar to the exemptions extended to the Cowboy Action groupies...

I was a member in Mission for ten years but I gave up on the place three years ago because of the one round/semi auto BS (and other issues). I am sorry to read that nothing has changed since I have left. There is a small group of old BR shooters (read old white guys) that control the rifle range. It is their way or the hit the road Jack. I have since joined Abbotsford and I have not been happier. Screw Mission until the old farts start going blind & dieing off.

I really do miss the 300 meter range :(.

Okay, now we are making some headway... "no rapid fire rule" will certainly hurt match 7 - the 300m Rapid fire stage.
Yes, training and bringing RSO, FPO (firing point officers), and Butts O will be a big challenge especially in the context of SR shooters leaving Mission GC for Abbotsford GC.

Larger roadblocks than the "no rapid fire rule".

This goes a way to clarifying the issues here. Slagfests or merely listing all the negative roadblocks are not constructive. That being said, there are many, many more roadblocks surfacing.... :cool:

Not so much roadblocks, as solutions waiting to be revealed.
As stated, the 'no rapid fire' can be waived, as it is for Cowboy Action shoots.

Range restrictions, in regards to firing geometry need to be confirmed, to ensure the safety of the butts party, and MAY be more problematic to overcome.

Regular RSO's need the 'Butts' endorsement, which is difficult to obtain, to say the least, unless one has time to partake of the 'Club 300', which, being the retired mans game at MDRGC, is difficult to do, for us working weenies who are actually RSO's. That being said, enough interest in gaining butts certification could result in a weekend class, for those RSO's interested. Yeah, It'd take time to square away, but is certainly feasible.
Approach your friendly neighbourhood MDRGC Pistol Chair, if you're interested (sorry for floatin' your a** out there, buddy...)

As a side note, I'm also a member of Abbotsford, as the environment is, indeed, more 'shooter friendly'.
The 285m range, and close proximity, and good pistol shoots, still keep me at Mission, as well.

As voiced in previous posts, though, YMMV.
 
Well, let's do this... in the hopes of raising positive input or solutions to problems, let's all move forward.... Looks to me like there is too much negative energy here. Time to move on. I'm locking this thread.
