Non-Restricted 308 Black Rifle suggestions?

how is the accuracy at 100yds?

Good question! No one's let me take it out for a spin like I did with the FAMAE mini.

With accuracy as an unknown factor I would compare the XCR-M and the SG542 as follows:

XCR-M is certainly the better choice if you're looking for more optics options. If you want high mounted scopes, forward mounted scopes, multiple lights and lasers, NV on the front, bipods, foregrips etc.

But, if you want something light and functional built off a tried and true design: I'd seriously lean toward the SG542.

Other differences: the SG542 uses rock in mags, the XCR can use pmags (ooooo pmags)

Their both pretty darn functional from a safety-bolt-release-mag-release standpoint.

If they were both on the shelf side by side, and my pocket was over-flowing with cash: I'd buy the FAMAE and put my Viper PST 2.5-10x44 on it.

RFB, 100yds, 180gr factory loaded nosler partitions.

I think this counts as sub-MOA. M305 and 5 rounds of 168 Grain Hornady. Not saying that I can always shoot this but when the stars align...

Not knockin' the other platforms and I'd love to have Tavor but for a $450 base gun I think few can argue that it isn't a fairly good value.

First, a single three round group ?
GTFO, I've seen an sks do the same thing, and in reality it averaged about 6 moa...

Average accuracy is what's important. What is it likely to shoot ? Not what it may shoot if you get really lucky.
An moa rifle is a rifle that can print four or five, five round groups that average out to 1 moa, on the same piece of paper or target.
It's a pretty big reality check for most.
Never owned or seen a 305/rfb that could come close.

Just a little of topic here too, but try out the new pst 2.5-10x33 if you get the chance.
It's my favourite scope for medium range ar's now, they improved the glass hugely.
The old 44mm was like looking through dirty goggles in comparison, the new glass looks just as good as the sightron s3 series.

I'm split between picking up another fnar or trying a sg542.

I'm very new here and I enjoy the forum. I fail to understand why some guys have to be rude when a topic that has been discussed many times gets brought up again. That's why we are here. So a new thread gets started on an old topic. Big deal. Don't read it if it bothers you so much. It's like walking up to a couple of new guys at the range who are discussing the pros and cons of the 308 Winchester round and saying "oh god not this discussion again". It's rude.

Not your business

You made the statement! We all just want to know how you came up with that conclusion. We are all here to talk about .308 black rifles after all. I'm debating XCR-M or the Sg542. I'm leaning towards the 542 now as I already have a XCR-L and want to mix it up a bit. Already have a M305 love it but not exactly a black rifle.

Some people are just anal about stuff, I cough it up to them not having enough ###.

"...What's wrong with this topic?..." Question gets asked by FNG's on a regular basis. It's as if they can't or won't do their own research.

Well in all fairness the search feature throws people off a bit as it has a habit of not being that great or having conflicting settings.

So which one of these takes the Pmag clips?

Its a forum, made for quick questions and answers.

It's better than looking at pictures of dead gophers, and having people rave about how they explode in a red mist, woohooo... Quite disturbing and very poor taste...

No really it's not.

SAPR 751 is better than sg 542, but more expensive. My Statement :) Do you think prototype is better than a final version ??? I owned a Swiss Rifle, nothing like A SwiSS, very well build, stronger receiver than the prototype...

I have no experience with XCR-M, i dislike is mechanical, I really like a Springfield in a sage chassis , for me is a real black rifle.

Well there you go, you find repetitive questions quite disturbing, I, myself, find other things on here quite disturbing. So we both go on our ways and let it be.

I don't find repetitive questions disturbing. It's going to happen. Especially with the way the search system on here is fickle. I just don't have an issue with seekers of the red mist. Sorry if that seems insensitive to your lady feelings.

To answer the Op's question. If you want real accuracy with a black (semi auto) rifle you'll have to go restricted. AR308 is your best option. The FN is supposed to be fairly accurate in non restricted but let's face it that thing is the Fudd's black rifle. It's pretty much a conventional rifle with black training wheels. The XCR-M, RFB and the new Famae/Sig 54X models in 308 are your best shot. Pros and cons to all of them. It's a shame the AR10 is restricted. We were robbed with the AR. They managed to make the modern sporting rifle restricted. What a joke.

did I post any claim to accuracy? NO, I posted a pic of a target with ammo and rifle used at the yardage, I didn't even say how many rounds fired, sorry you seem to get upset over how my rfb shoots. It is a hunting rifle after all.

It would nice to see how it shoots with something other than surplus at a 100

You kinda some sort of contradiction. A gun nut and a tree hugger in one. Shooting anything and watching it go to pieces is awesome, including varmints like gophers, squirrels, rats etc etc. I really hate those huge European squirrels we have in the GVRD. They destroy your attics and chew your wiring.
