you've been critized on language because calling certain guns assault weapons (amongst other things) makes about as much sense as your neighbours thinking meat is manufactured. So if you understand why it needs to be explained to them, you understand why it needs to be explained to you.
I'd point you to the "Dealer Network" (sponsor of the forum, cf the banners at the top of the page). That said, I have only been on the market of milsurp bolt-rifle lately. I do not want to make any investment in a tacticool NR while I'm living in Quebec :-/
That said, I am surprised nobody spoke about the SKS. They are dirt cheap ($200 average price), and you can change the stock to look more badass afterward.
edit: alternatively, you can join the EE, and browse the "Exchange of Military Surplus Rifle" (for SKS) or "Exchange of Modern Military and Black Rifles".

Tactical seems to be the industry buzz-word of the decade, slap pic rails on anything and it instantly becomes "tactical" like that god-awful Mossberg lever gun...
I prefer the term Modern Rifle, No BS about sporting/non-sporting use, just calling it what it is.
Personally I find the obsession with applying the term "assault rifle" specifically to select-fire guns to be dumb.
I don't use the expression "clip" myself but I am not bothered by it, either.

It would be a waste of energy if the antis didn't use the term so heavily against us.
jesus christ guys, cut him some slack. he's workin on it, and given the amount of hostility, taking it well 
one of the things you'll learn about CGN is read more, post less. every question you have has been answered uncountable times. the guys just get a bit frustrated (and some are dinks). don't interchange mag/clip and don't make the firearms sound like they have a nasty baby eating disposition and you'll be fine.
use the search function, and check out all of the advertisers at the top of the page. they all have different offerings as to what is available. silly as it sounds, the penultimate "list of nice guns that we like to own" and libs would like to ban didn't go over so hot last time...tryin not to make it TOO easy i spose.
you want something that shoots moa, is built well, and costs less than $1500. sorry but the ar-15 is restricted. you might have to make due with a cz or su-16 for now

I can't believe you still actually think I'm just trolling. Honestly man go read another thread. Last night I eventually went to sleep like most human beings do. I like to have a selection shown to me to choose from. Cause I was exhausted looking through sites and finding so many cool ones I couldn't own and then the crap that I could. So I asked here and apparently made a no no by saying assault. I've asked moderators to change title but they didn't because all of your useless comments (except a few guys) just adds to the post count which will eventually pay the bills here. I simply had enough and sent a email to wolverine and precision arms asking them basically what can I buy? I figure if they want my business they will work a little for it. About 90% of you were useless. I have posted in long range section and everyone is friendly and willing to answer. So I've come to realization it's not the word assault that hurts the sport, it's you idiots who represent it. Instead of correcting me and educating me. You simply poked fun. It wasn't even until the second page that I even knew why everyone was reacting like that. I'm surprised moderators didn't do anything. Any other newby reading this wouldn't have even posted in fear of "sounding stupid". You guys are bad for the sport and the website. My ignorance can always be educated. Your ####### machoness won't.

It was a poorly worded question, a fact you acknowledge. I've been here since day 1 and over and over we've been trolled by Lefties, and media, with that question. That's the context. So forgive some dudes and we move on.

You'll get jumped on for hearing protection, eye glasses, finger on the trigger, pointing in an unsafe direction, and the list goes on an on.It is very opinionated here and many are self appointed safety and parenting guru's that do only consider their opinions and choices in equipment to be the right ones.
Take the internet for what it is and use whatever information you can to educated and further your interest in the hobby and not let it get to you.Everybody behind the keyboard is either a military qualified sniper, and expert at MMA or an ex navy seal.
Anyways , are your options based solely on a semi-auto or is bolt action something you would look at for the accuracy factor?Something that looks like a Savage BA may be worth a minute to look at.

Tell ya what: go back to the "friendly" precision rifle forums and start calling them "sniper rifles" or "anti personelle rifles" and see how long it stays friendly. Sorry dude, but assault rifles are meant to kill people....full stop. Calling a black rifle an assault weapon here is like referring to a box of condoms as a "no DNA rape kit" on a planned parenting forum. And yeah, people get a little testy about it. There's PLENTY of info already posted (see "non-restricted black rifles"), but if you can't be bothered to search, let alone learn what basic terms mean, most can't be bothered to worry about hurting your feelings.
