norinco CQ-A

is it any good?

or do you get what you pay for

In this universe, I find this to be 100% true 99% of the time. I once bought an AR for 3500$ that was complete sh!t and some 600$ AR are also complete sh!t. A lot of gun owners here on CGN love Norincos, I personally do not.

My buddy bought one a month ago and has run about 500 round through it so far including a CQB training weekend and it ran flawlessly. The trigger was a little gritty but after a polish it was GTG. No issues, stoppages or FTEs. Great deal for the money so far.

good to know

I would like to get into the ar world but really don't feel like spending a ton of money, that I don't have.

whats the accuracy like?
I have a norc 1911 that had terriblr accuracy (some time and money at the gun smith fixed that though)

I got a Norc 1911 and I dont find it all that bad. Its not match barrel or barsto barrel accurate but its not hot dog down the hallway min of barn bad either. I get 2-4" at 20

A search of many threads about CQA...

my norc 1911 would be on the paper at 20y but very inconsistent, even with my buddies reloads
there was a lot of slop in the barrel and slide
but now it has a match barrel with custom barrel bushing, adjustable sights with fluorescent front, trigger work custom machined the frame and slide with a super tight fit.
pinned the beavertail safety as well

she shoots way better than I do now.

I use mine for CQB / Multigun as well...Run it pretty hard and have had no FTE's / stoppages yet (2500-3000 rounds)...Accuracy wise, it's at least as good as I am...

For +/- $550, it's a good deal. And you can treat it badly and not worry...Sorta the bush gun / truck gun of the AR world.

I put about 5000 rounds through my CQ-A before I sold it to a friend who's own round count on it is up to 3000 and still going. The only reason I sold it was because there was a deal on a CC SA20 and I just needed a few more bucks. There was nothing wrong with the CQ-A, and there was no reason to sell it other than raising funds.

Ya I'm probably going to order one from marstar .

the only problem is my wife will be the one who answers the door when it gets delivered.

I"m a firm believer in the "its easier to ask for forgiveness then it is permission" saying. LOL

This is it, right here.

I once had a Colt Delta Elite AR15A2 (complete with scope, cheek riser, mount, and aluminum case - I was offered too much money for it to say no) and while it beat the living snot out of my Norc in finish durability, my Norc functioned just as well. I don't see how you can go wrong if you want to get into the AR game buying a Norc - they take the upgrades that most AR's do (although the front sight block seems to be welded, not pinned on ;) ) and it's inexpensive enough that you can keep it for a "buddy gun" when you decide to upgrade to something like a Colt Canada AR. If you don't like it, you can always sell it for what you paid for it and at least break even.

Milspec AR's have crappy triggers, but that's an easy drop-in upgrade. I use my Norc for 3-gun and service rifle shooting, and have had zero problems with it. YMMV

You'll most likely be picking it up at the post office, not getting it delivered (Canada Post delivers firearms, but won't deliver ammo. Courier companies will deliver ammo, but not firearms. Makes sense, don't it  )

At least you won't have to call for an STATT anymore if you already have an LTATT.

I don't know about that I ordered a 1911 from them and the delivery guy asked if I live here she said ya and he handed her the pistol in a box of course.
she has no licence
and when I came home from work it was sitting on the kitchen island waiting for me.
same thing happened with my sks

CP doesn't need licences to deliver firearms (it's in C-68) but they won't deliver large parcels where I am in Red Deer. Handgun parcels are usually fairly small, but rifle/shotgun sized parcels I've ALWAYS had to pick up at the local outlet. You must have some good CP delivery people where you live.

For the money you can't lose. Only problem I've ever had was an extractor issue with the 10.5, and that was fixed with a $15 upgrade from Wolverines. The fact that it is compatible with other parts means you can buy it cheap and upgrade as you go. About the only things that are still original on mine are the stripped upper, the stripped lower, and the ejection port cover. One of the sponsors had a sale on LPK's so it got new internals. One had a sale on a carbon fibre free float fore-end, so the front sight/gas block got drilled out at the same time and a low-profile from Dlask went on. The barrel is a DPMS? That I picked up at a gun shoe. The entire BCG got changed to a nickel-boron unit that I found a good deal on at the time. Have I spent way too much money on a Norc? You bet I have, but there ain't a lot of Norc left, and it still hasn't cost me what a Colt or other name brand would have, and I've done it over time, getting what works best for me.

Check out this thread, hasn't been updated in a while since a lot of US ARs took a nosedive in price last year, but with the crappy exchange rate, Norc sales might go up again.:

For the money, they work as well as can be expected. For around 2x what the Norinco costs, you can get a good U.S. made entry level AR, which is what I would recommend.

I own a norc cq. Love it! Feels solid and light. Out of the box and having never used one I was shooting fist sized groups with irons at 100 yards. I picked up a drop in .22 bolt for it as well. Functions well and was hitting shotgun hulls at 25 yards with irons. Friend of mine is OPP and remarked that it looked and functioned just like his service rifle in his vehicle. That there is praise for the old norc cq's.

I've had mine 2 years. No issues whatsoever. Cycles any ammo, shoots reasonable groups. It was my entry into the ar world. For $600. At some point I want a colt canada iur. But that's a ways away. If you have anything specific you'd like to know PM me. I have approx 2000-3000 rounds thru it.

First I want to say that I am not a Norinco fanboy. I have had 3 Colts and 1 Armalite before the CQ-A I have now. That POS Norinco Has found me a 3rd place finish in IPSC 3 gun championships last year. It also has not had one stoppage since I bought it in 2011 and I only cleaned it once in 2012. It's had about 3000 rds through it since it was last cleaned yet it won't choke.
