What type of marker did you use, sharpie?
Just a green fat marker yes. I was going to post....I looked at both my bolts and they look like yours re the concave opening at the front of the sear channel. I'm still staring at mine trying to figure out how to solve the stiff close!
There's no warranty on these and I don't think Norinco is too interested in sending stuff to us. There's a basic ( hand drawn) schematic in the owners manual. These come from Tenda and they're happy to take them back if QC issues arise but several of us have taken up the "JW 15 tuning challenge". These are nice little rifles once you break them in. New stock CZ457s ( similar action) are having the same issues it seems.
Matt, in my continuing research on bolt issues I came across this YT vid from a guy who had the same problem with a CZ bolt coming out of the gun. CZ, which our dear firearms are modeled after. Have a look and see if this might help you.
The video shows a CZ455 not a CZ457. But hey, they are" similar" actions to the JW15,.... Really ? Looks like a direct copy to me...
Anyways, I don't know what kind of manuals/imaginations you've for the JW15 / CZ455 but I don't think they are really comparable.
I didn't say the video was a 457..I mentioned that in a separate post.... just a comment about tight bolts.
The Norincos are a knockoff of the Brno #2 and the bolt design is similar so we're using the work people have done with the newer models like the 452/455 to inform what we're doing. Otherwise I'm not sure I understand what you're saying: "direct copy" then "not really compatible".
Just got my JW15 yesterday. All seems OK so far. Gave it a decent clean and lube. Function test with snap caps went well will give it a good live ammo function test today after work.
Then it’s to work on making this thing run and look a bit better. But all said and done if this functions wellenuff I will be very happy for the cost.
Ejector/extractor spring clip is rusty and the bolt is RUFF (makes my Mosin feel like a tikka in comparison lol). But it got better after a good lube and repeated cycling of action. Firing pin is comically ruff and looks to be hand machined on a bench grinder lol. Not sure how to best go about polishing and adjusting things so far but will sort that out in time. The stock actually looks decent far better than expected but the inletting will need a bit of clean up for sure.

Thanks for the video, I checked all my pins everything is good. I used a marker to mark the underside of my bolt. The marker I used was not ideal so it did not stay on the bolt but it did transfer on to the sear, and it’s shows the sear only making contact on each side and on the top or high side, it is not making contact on the low side the side that would hit the bolt and stop it come coming out. So that’s a start. I need to redo the marker test with something better to see if the sear is sitting all the way in the channel on the bolt.
I made sure to get rid of all the oil on the components using rubbing alcohol before I marked mine and that makes a big difference. I used a quality permanent marker not the cheap ones from the dollar store..lol.. probably made in the same factory...
It looks good so far, I've never handled one with the wood stock. The actions slick up pretty fast and you'll see a few notes on this and the other threads as to what people have run into.
Well interesting results from today’s maiden range trip. This thing needs WORK. Ruff is an understatement to say the least.
Feeding was ok but much better with my CZ MAGS. Extraction was near non existent most rounds had to be removed with a knife despite trying Tac22 and Fed AutoMatch (where can I get an extractor ejector and spring clip will CZ stuff fit?). Accuracy was actually very promising right up till the rear sight fell off the damn gun (I not sure yet what I doing here as I want this for irons only I have more than enough scoped 22s). Bolt was very hard to close with ammo in gun but was fine empty. Trigger although heavy feels pretty good to me. Had quite a few light strikes that would go off with a second hit (chock that up to RUFF firing pin?) this seemed to happen less as I shot more.
Over all I think it will work for my purpose as a little “ smithing” training tool/project.

Is some able to take a photo of their rifle out of the stock. As you can see from my photos the sear does not go tight up against the bottom of the receiver and I would like to know if this is common in other people’s rifles.

Interesting range visit alright. On the extraction/hard to close on full chamber, have a look at the recesses on each side of the chamber where the extractors seat on closing. These look a bit funky/ not clear on some of these, like they're not cut deep enough or full of crap. On the rear sight flying off, are you saying it flew out of the dovetail? Keep an eye on the front sight too as the screw attaching it hasn't got many threads of engagement..loctite likely needed. I've had a loose front sight on two of them out of the box. Agree though, these will make nice open sight rifles, especially for aging eyes like mine.
