I took mine down (YES, its a takedown model, simple as pie, one screw on the side, then pull it apart. Cleaned it super easy, and took it out today. I have to say, this thing is a friggin TANK! Its made of all machined parts, and it cycled flawlessly with the 5 types of .22lr that I had sittin around. Jeezus. I love it. This is a nicely made rifle. (I put about 350 rounds through it)
I kinda cheated a bit, and put a 2.8-10x42 scope on it, and used my leadsled to get the smallest groups I could. I got a .68" five shot group at 50 yards. (winchester 555 ammo) and the next best groups rang in at about .9" or so with CCI minimag. There was no wind at all, and I was there by myself , so I had no distractions.
I have to say, this is way less finicky than the Browning BL22 I had a year or two ago. I cycled EVERYTHING I could feed it. Only thing I found that I didn't like was there was a bit of a "metal tinging noise" when I handled the gun, and I found it was the hammer transfer bar or even the firing pin? Whatever it is that the hammer hits directly, it had a bit of play and made a bit of metal on metal contact. No big deal, as the whole rifle is so solid, I really can't believe more people dont have these. I pretty much just bought this by accident, as I hadn't seen one before the minute I bought one. It was a complete impulse buy, and I am glad I did buy it. I might get another couple to give to my hunting buddies for their birthdays. Better shooter than the 9422 I had, and equal to the browning. Plus, I have never been able to get groups even close to this with the Marlin 39 that my Dad owns.
I like the open sights a lot, but I just wanted to check out the accuracy potential first, then I may just take off the scope and start the Ptarmigan slaughter!!!!!!!!
