Norinco Luger?

The problem its that Norinco reverse-engineers their products. Who wants to sacrifice their Luger for the Chinese to tear apart?

You do realize the nationalist army of china was nearly fully nazi trained and supplied right? Nationalist China and the Nazi's were best buds until Hitler decided Japan was to be the master race of Asia. Lugers, K98k's, C96's are all commonplace Chinese nationalist arms from that period. China even received the license and domestically produced their own "Chiang Kai Shek" K98k's and I believe they made their own .45ACP Broomhandles.

From the back, they would look nothing more than early war Germans.

It's a little known tidbit of history that actually quite fascinating, just how close China and Nazi Germany were during that time.
The wiki link here gives a good overview. Note pics of the Hitler Jugend having training camps on Chinese soil among other things.

"...Part of the allure of the Luger is quality..." No it isn't. The allure of Lugers comes from Hollywood. The Luger is a first generation pistol with a really fragile design. Calling 'em complex is being polite.

There is the allure.

I would definately purchase a repro for range fun time. Same reason I have the Norc 1897 trench gun clone. It was affordable and I can shoot he bejeezus out of it without care, all while having the enjoyment of a nostalgic and popular historic firearm.

You know what would really make me pop a stiffy?

C96 Broomhandle Red-9 clones readily available compete with stock.

Here is the right question. Would you pay $350 to $500 for a norinco Luger? Thats the median going price for norc's. I know I would buy one at that.

Lugers were hand fitted when built. There is a reason why "mix-master" Lugers have reliability issues. I can imagine the Norinco ones having problems getting to the end of a single mag without Failures to feed, fire, and eject.
My guess is they probably tried making them at some point but could never make them run.

That's disappointing, but I wonder if the turks who make the hi-power clones could do it?

Yup I agree, I’ve got original Lugers and let me tell you that one little imperfection and it don’t work. With that in mind their not toilets by any means. They were the top pistol of the day till the P38 came about. Can the Chinese copy these? Yes I’m sure they can. Can they clone these with German precision? Highly doubt it as witnessed by other products they clone (not just rifles). I’m not saying their incapable of building a quality piece, by all means they are, but they never seem to as their modo is “quantity not quality”. I’d luv to see a repro Luger, but I’m afraid it won’t live up to the Luger name and the price will be outrageous like the type/81 deal. Worst of all I fear it will tarnish the real Lugers name if this clone turns out to be a dud. Guess we’ll all have to wait and see. One things forsure, I ain’t paying over $500 for a clone when I recently picked up an original Luger with only a mismatched firing pin for $500.

Hello Sarge,
Shot your former, now mine...very sweet piece.

See, the thing is, Norinco has a habit of making a couple of decent guns - M-305 and their 1911 clone. The rest, well, they've generally been 'learning curves' to get to where they are today. I will note that supposedly the M-14 tooling they use was apparently originally US - and I'd imagine the same for their 1911's.

I don't think they'd be starting with original Luger tooling - and I think the learning curve to make these pistols well would be considerably larger than the learning curve to get from Gen 1 to Gen 2 to Gen 3 on say the NP-34 (Sig 228 clone.)

The hand-fitting needed, and the precision workmanship necessary to produce a good, functional Luger pistol is not beyond the realm of the possible for Norinco, however, I'd think they'll have a lot of growing pains, and a lot of unhappy customers.

Just my thoughts...

Holy necro thread!

I bet a Norinco Luger would have lots of sharp edges... :)

Is this for real?! I don't care how it is compare to the original. If it is 9mm version I will buy it no matter what.

Not yet.

It's back from the dead, just in time for Halloween.

I spent ten minutes searching for a thread about Norinco Lugers, this was the first one that I found

When I first got into shooting I heard rumors about Norinco making a Luger clone. I still want one, so I try my best to get more people interested. So I dredged this thread up from the bottom, and brought the idea of an affordable Luger into the minds of the people. Maybe then they can get made, and I can get a Luger.
