UPDATE: DISASSEMBLY VIDEOS IN POST #11 and #47

Its here!!!!
The long wait is finally over, I ordered in early July, it was shipped November 14 from SFRC and arrived November 15 to my door (in Ontario).

Unboxing: the case was packed very well in foam bits

Opening the case: pistol sealed in preservative grease

All cleaned up: pistol and the mag it came with

Here it is with its .45 cal brother:

And they both join the GSG 1911:

Detail strip: Note, I could not get the extractor out, it is in there tight!

The mainspring housing:

IT IS PLASTIC: :( and a ##### to get out…..I could remove the housing pin and #### the pistol and the housing wouldn’t budge!

Lots of cuts on my hand getting it out….. :( :HR:

I ended up sanding the crap out of it to make the fit much easier and smoother. This is hands down the crappiest part of the pistol and it would be the 1st one I replace.

The inside of the frame is fairly rough; it will need plenty of sanding/polishing which I plan to do at a later date.

The trigger pull is not the greatest at the moment, around 7.5 lbs. Hopefully some internal polishing and tuning will get it up to par to my Armco tuned .45 norc (crisp 4.5 lbs!)

RANGE REVIEW:

I was shooting 25 yards away, the pistol windage was fairly bang on, but the point of impact was high with my reloads (thought I expected it to be).

My best slow shooting group:

Normal shooting:

And a rapid fire video :D:

Shot about 100 rounds, had only one stovepipe, otherwise flawless shooting pistol.
Overall very happy, well worth the wait.

" but would you go with the NP29 or the GSG as a first handgun, and why? "

GSG definitely.

Pure and simple; VOLUME.

It's your first gun, and you need to shoot ALOT of ammo. Your first gun must be a .22LR to satisfy this initial need.

You can get a centerfire gun later. But start out with a .22LR and a TON of ammo.

I see you have a GSG as well. I'm still waiting on my license, but would you go with the NP29 or the GSG as a first handgun, and why?

Well what do you know, I did a GSG 1911 review too :D: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=580395

They will both cost you the same (GSG maybe a bit more) to buy, but the GSG will cost significantly less to shoot (500 rounds can be had for under $20)

It is an excellent trainer and will allow you to develop your trigger finger. However, since there is minimal recoil, you will not develop any recoil management skills/quick target acquisition post recoil skills.

If money was not an issue then I would be only shooting .45 ACP or 10mm though :p

BTW my 1st 1911 was the .45 ACP norinco!

My extractor came out easily, just use a small screwdriver to push the extractor back a bit then out it popped.

I couldn't get the safety out. On the GSG 1911 moved the safety half way, then wriggle and out it comes. The NP29 didn't bulge, got lazy, just spray with thinner and oiled. Being a while, maybe i missed a step.

This is mine, I finally got it out using your advice, but it needed a lot of force.... it definitely looks bent, noticeably more than the one from my .45 nork...

UPDATE VIDEO:
Several people already asked about the ambi-safety removal so I made a short video showing how it is done, hope it helps.

Thanks for the vid. I forgot to #### the sucker before the safety wiggle. The Glock is so much easier to disassemble.

The 1911's in 9mm needs a lot of pressure on the extractor for it to function. If it functions as is I would not change anything. A friend bought a Kimber 1911 in 9mm. He have to bend his extractor a lot to make it function properly. Before his fix he had many failures to extract.

I got one yesterday and cleaned and took to the range today. Was very accurate, felt great in the hand and had less recoil than my other 9mms.

But maybe cleaned too well and didn't lube up enough. Over about 100 shots I had 3 or 4 FTFs and a stovepipe after the final shot in each and every mag (using 4 different mags).

Took it apart after the first 20 or so and relubed. But same issues with the stovepipes. Definitely some rough edges here and there.

WTF? Any advice?

try shooting different brands of ammo while breaking it in ....with many things that can cause a malfunction, try ammo first.. could be poor extractor, the mag, ejector, limp wristing... not all guns need breaking in.
none of mine were an issue out of the box...

Finally got it out to the range today. Similar report as others, more accurate than I was, less recoil than G17 thanks to the extra weight. Had several FTE on first 100 rounds but progressively got better; agree several hundred rounds break-in is needed, unlike my G17 gen4 that has yet to have FTF, FTE on light load reloads. Can feel the roughness racking the slide vs. the smooth sliding on the G17 and 92F

At half the price of the G17 can't complaint. Would get the 45ACP if the SR1911 arrival wasn't imminent.

Just got mine this morning...cleaned up and posing with her big sisters...
