Norinco NR-15 Bolt-Action 22LR New Arrival

Looks like it might be; not a bad process if the metal composition and heat treatment is up to snuff. It also looks like it could be investment cast (think Ruger). That is something the Chinese are good at; I'm thinking Maniflods and turbo/super charger housings and impellers. Bottom line is it is a .22, it is not a 760 Eargersplitten Loudenboomer, so it will likely take the recoil. LOL

What problems did yours have?
The first one: bolt wouldn't go in...sear too high to allow insertion with trigger pulled. Second one: bolt would go in, stiff to close but had to use a rubber mallet to open it. Pretty non existent QC at the factory. I'm so dumb I'm actually going to try a third one! Previous runs of these have been great little rifles.

You can carefully hand fit a tight one.

Mine arrived this morning. Seems to cycle nicely. Safety works well too. Only downer so far is that it arrived with the thread protector broken.

Did anyone get a decent 15a shortie out of this recent batch from Tenda? I sent back two but at this price, cripes, I'm tempted. 3rd time lucky?
Hi Arcosdad - I ended up buying both a full size and a shorty JW-15. TBH, I really liked both. The magazines were awful, but could be cleaned up inside (sandpaper) to run semi-reliably. CZ magazines fixed any issue. They both shot well too, especially the 24".

I think I answered you in another thread, but with the shorty at first I couldn't close the bolt properly with the action in the stock. The bolt handle cut out in the stock wasn't deep enough to lock properly, but easily fixed.

May have been the only 2 decent versions in the last batch of JW15s by the sound of it. Some CGNers took exception to a semi positive review, but oh well.

Sounds good, you did get a couple of good ones. They break in very nicely. The
one shortie I got last year off the EE was from the 2012 era and was very slick. Like you I bought one of each on the ammo special this month. Just working through the bolt tuning on them as they are both "sticky". Turns out the sear channel is causing some of this so it's getting a good polish with the diamond files and emery cloth. True, there are some purists and haters out there but our sport has room for lots of diverse toys!

Mine really shoots, but the seer chanel and the interface between the bolt handle and the bolt could be causing a bit of stickyness also. I will look at those this week.

Anyone able to get the trigger adjustment screw turning?

Thanks,

Mark

Meroh - I was able to adjust the trigger on both of my recent JW15s. The second one required a bit of heat and penetrating oil to loosen it up. Turning the screw clockwise decreases sear engagement and vice versa. It's pretty easy to adjust it to the point that the sear doesn't catch the striker, so when you cycle it the bolt comes right out! There is a happy middle point with a crisp trigger and reliable cycling.

The hardest part was getting the factory goo out of the screw hole.

Just received two NR15 FDE thumbhole stock rifles.
-stock is well made but somewhat ugly, hello paint spray cans!
-bluing is "meh" but it's a $150 gun
- Barell is free floating after the action screws
-action screws are loctited and the screws themselves are soft metal so use the proper size screwdriver and add lots of pressure to take them out.
-safety is stiff but will smooth out
-bolt is well made, a bit stiff but after just a quick wipedown is already smoothing out
-three front screws are just there to protect the threads for where you can add a swivel
-bore is perfect
-sights line up perfectly, do wish the rear sight folded down though
-stock is extremely comfortable, a happy surprise
-service and communication from Tenda was exceptional

Will be adding a bipod and scope on the weekend but unfortunately won't be able to shoot them until late May.
Only regret is not buying four of them hahaha
Dave

Just noticed I put the bipod on backwards ahahhahhaha, I'm an idiot!

I just picked up a JW-15 shorty. It's pretty terrible. The bolt is hard to insert, trigger is awful, and the rear sight is so loose I removed it with my fingers. It's been a couple decades since my last Norinco, so I had forgotten about that wonderful oil they cover everything with.

I think this will keep me from buying another Norinco for a couple more decades.
