Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

Maybe?

No, not really, but a new mod is in the works that I may have posted prematurely before testing was done. If that makes sense?

Well, not really anything NS522 to post other than I took my oldest son (he is nine) Luke out for his first time ever shooting, as he has proved to be ready and very responsible. He wasnt really wanting to shoot the Norinco at all because the scope seemed to be a little much for him. He started out with a Slavia 618 air rifle, followed by an old Cooey 75 shooting shorts, but the he fell in love with the TOZ 99 with a 4x scope. He just couldnt miss the spinners at 50m! I didnt get any testing done either, as my face hurt from smiling all day.

Nothing new to add other than putting a Leupold 6-18 x 40mm target scope on one of my 522s. Yesterday was a fine day to be at the range.

Haven't been out much with the 522 lately. Was pleasantly suprised to shoot a personal best group and average group size. Only had 3/4 of a box of the ammo it likes so I stopped while I was ahead. Also shot a couple 100 yard groups or of curiosity, nothing special.

My trigger is definitely the bottleneck now. Everything is so stock, planning over travel, sear engagement and a new spring if I can get my hands on some damn spring steel wire.

Just go to your local hobby shop and ask for piano wire, it comes in 3 foot lengths in many sizes, I use .032 and .024 for most of my spring needs

Over travel screw is rather easy to do, and useful as well. Sear engagement is less useful, IMO. I installed a sear engagement screw on one of mine, but found it didn't do much. If I screw it in until it just barely contacts the bottom of the trigger, it is fine. Usually, even a quarter turn in after that will cause the striker to go forward. I think I finally removed my sear engagement screw so that it wouldn't just fall out. Until you get some spring steel wire, try the safety pin trigger spring mod. Safety pins are cheap, widely available and sold in quantities that allow for a good amount of experimentation as to number of coils and so forth. Good luck with your planned mods!

I originally went to the dollar store and bought a whack of ladies hair clips to pooch the springs from until I found the pefect one.
