Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

In the US, they bring $400-$500, with conditions ranging from "well used" to BNIB. Of course the stocks were/are a bit nicer....:d

The ultimate lifetime bargain. I purchased mine at the $229 and thought I had a steal. I really kick myself for not buying two or three now.

I recall seeing the Eggroll on the EE for sale and researching it for a few days before sending him a PM. Back then they were unheard of and there was only info out of Aus/NZ. Funny how ####e goes..

I have this Christmas period to enact a number of 'improvements inspired by your thread here! I shall let you know how it goes. I am very grateful for your sharing of your efforts on this forum. One of my favourite project guns!

Aww shucks man! It has become what it is as a rusult of all the awesome posts from everyone.

I cant wait to see what you do to yours.

Silly question. MDT now has a rimfire LSS chassis availablefor Anschutz rifles. Not knowing anything else, is there a chance of this fitting these aweome rifles?

I have a LSSXL on one of my rifles and I love it.

No close enough, IMO. The idea that the 522 is some sort of Anschutz copy is often bandied about, but it is not very accurate. The Chinese did borrow some design elements from the 54 Anschutz--mostly clearly in the general design of the bolt and the attendant bolt release--but trigger assemblies are different, as are the magazine housings. There was a post many years back on RimfireCentral that addressed the differences between the 522 and the 54 Annie and they are considerable as I recall. The idea was floated back then of putting the 522 in a 54 wood stock and that was found to be a no-go by the OP of that thread. It may still be on RFC, or it may not, as a system crash some time back erased a lot of the early info (1996-2009 or so) on the NS-522. Not saying it couldn't be made to fit, but it is certainly not a drop in.

Just finished installing the post and drilling & tapping for the over travel stop. Made my own trigger spring (safety pin) - polished the triggers mating surfaces - This little riffle is now total awsomeness . I have ordered the airsoft L36 sniper rifle to see if I can make the stock work for this rifle. Will keep everyone posted on my progress.

You know, I hadn't thought of the airsoft stock. I know people have but the MkII into a bunch of different stocks.

Then again, in my opinion, part of the awesomeness of this gun is the cheapness to accuracy ratio. On the other hand, it gives more room to spend a little extra as well! I eagerly await what you have done with the airsoft stock@

Pics man!!!!!!

Managed to make it to the range today and shoot some groups with the Eggroll while letting my .223 cool in between groups and she never fails to impress. However, I had some constant feeding issues that I have never had since I worked over the action. It could have been the cold temps, but let me tell you it was freakin annoying! It seemed to worse from one of my mags, but I had about 20-30 FTF as well with a box of 300 Federal AM. I have never had any issues at all before, so I will have to strip the Eggroll down to see. On another note, I snapped some pics of a group my 9 year old son Luke shot at 100m. He shot all 15 ( my fault for not being as clear as I should have been) at one target, but still pretty good for a first go with such a large scope.

Some random gun ####. The Eggroll with my Weatherby Vanguard S2 in .223 before the range.

it might not be the magazines, it might be the extractors, or more to the point the extractor and the thing on the other side of the bolt. I had trouble with the way my rifle was feeding so I tried to track down what the problem might be. I removed the bolt from the rifle and tried to slide a cartridge up the boltface into firing position. it took more force than what i would consider necessary to get into battery so i removed the extractor and the other thing on the opposite side of the bolt and cut a coil off the spring on each side, and polished a slight radius into the edge of the extractor right where the rim slides past. I also polished the edge of the extractor looking gadget on the other side. still too much pressure, so I knocked another coil off. now the rim is still being held securely by the extractor but its not in a death grip. before I cut the springs, it took a lot of force to close the bolt because the rim couldn't get past the extractor very easily and the cartridge was jammed up against the bottom of the chamber, which caused bullet deformation on the way into the chamber. so now it is working like it should. if you are going to do this, keep in mind each bolt might be drilled differently, so don't go and knock 2 coils off, you might be clipping off too much, take a bit off the spring until the tension feels snug, but not stupid tight.

Nicely done with the pillars.

The Eggoll has been polished and de burred for quite a while now and has run nearly perfect since. I almost think it was due to the cold weather and too much oil in action from last time I stored it in the safe. It was worse with one of the mags tho, so I have to test further for sure. The FTF were the most annoying part for sure, as the Eggroll will not extract a live round, so that process got old real quick.

I am going to strip her down tomorrow and have a look see. It has been at least a year since I have had her all apart.

I'm very interested to see how the Scorpio EM 332 stacks up against the NS522 in terms of function and accuracy

Yeah, a few have PMd me asking if I would be buying one to do a comparison and to be honest, the stock just turns me off! It reminds me of a cross between an air rifle and a Mossberg Plinkster. Super ugly! I am pretty sure it wont touch the NS522 in the accuracy department. Not much has (in my safe anyway) and I dont need another plinker. If it had a regular syn stock or even a pallet wood type then maybe.

I 'm thinking it might be a good walking gun rather than a bench rest gun...I should have my Scorpio EM 322 tomorrow sometime so I 'll have a better idea how it compares with my NS 522.I think the stock is going to be either 'I love it' or 'I hate it'depending in how it feels

I have seen an EM322 in a spoter stock shoot very well. I look forward to your review.
