Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

Took mine all apart today and cleaned her. I put it back together and the bolt seems different......

Seems like its sloppy now and clicks twice now when closing the bolt.....It seems like the spring inside the bolt is binding?

You go to close the bolt and it clicks once when half way down....Then is very easy to close the rest of the way. When you pull the trigger the bolt de-cocks like it should...But it seems different that before i took it off?

Anyone have any idea what I did wrong???

Just a thought.
If you took the barrel assembly out of the stock and then reassembled it the rear attaching screw could be hitting the bottom of the bolt. Did you put the washers back under the trigger guard?

I would take the barrel assembly out of the gun and see if you can get the mag to latch in. How far are you from Oakville? Bronte/QEW area.
Scott...

Hello Scott
I did try removing the whole bolt assembly from the stock and try the mags without any success. I will send you a pm and maybe we can chat.

I just receive mine and the overall look pretty good. The wood look ok and the trigger is at 3 1/2 pound! The bolt is a bit odd to work. I will clean it and put a scope on it. I can't wait to go to the range.

Mine just arrived. I'll try it as is out of the box first, then I'll do all the mods and see what the difference is. I was planning on refinishing the stock, but other than the rough bolt cutout its not bad for a $200.00 rifle. Got to get the scope & rings now.

ok I dont know if it was the windy day, or ammo, or scope or the shooting position, or what, but mine shot like crap at 50 yards on my 1st range trip

what are the conditions you guys are shooting in? I havent done any mods yet, just cleaned out the grease

I shot these about a month ago just cleaned the 522 put a bushnell 3-9-40 50 yards, sitting and a pad to lean the foregrip on, the cci I brought were the wrong ones they were minimag and I meant to bring sv which seem to work well for targetso I am 59 eyesight not as good as it used to be and a SLIGHT hangover I can't wait to do some mods on it to see how it improves! I am still looking for peep sights at a reasonable price to put on her! Oh yes all were 5 shot groups except the federal as I was sighting it in.

Received my second NS522 today. Very glad that the trigger is much more better than the previous one. But I found that my previous NS522 right side extractor wouldn't move! I thought it was the way it is:( until I cleaned the second one's bolt.

I tried to get it moving, by oiling, gentle tapping, but it just stayed there, it seems that the pin has been oversized and forced inside.
Anyone encountered the same thing? Any solution, suggestion?
Thanks,

Thanks,

I didn't know the extracters were spring loaded when I got my rifle. The right side extractor was loose and would move abit. When I was sighting in I noticed a 90-95% FTE rate. So I used wd-40 on the right extracted and got it to actually move and no longer wiggle. Then I figured that the left side extractor should move but it was completely seized so I used wd-40 again with no luck. Then stuck it in a vice and whacked it with a wrench (was at my in-laws and didn't know where my fil's hammer was), but that didn't seem to do anything so more wd-40 and pushing with my finger finally unseized it.

So basically just keep using a lubricating/penetrating oil and keep at it and eventually it will move. Also love taps won't hurt it, haha.

Ha, it works. Thank you very much for sharing your wisdom!
I dipped it in WD-40 for 5 minutes, and then found the extractor could move a little bit, excited. So I kept it dipped in WD-40 for another 15 minutes, wiggled the extractor against wood table side, and the extractor moved more, wiped off the slime, soaked it with WD-40, kept doing this until the extractor moved freely completely, amazed. No vice needed :), but actually I don't have one.
With the extractor freed, I hope this would help solve the problem of random flier and difficult spent case extracting.

For those wondering,

Next will be an adjustable sear, and an "enhanced" mag release lever, as the factory one is not what I like.

Hows that????? An adjustable sear you say?

Yep. Done like dinner.........

Spot the difference? Of course you do! That wee spot
Was made for an adjustable sear. The real reason for the set nut on the over-travel screw was to offer more adjustability based on the sear contact and to accept the new trigger return spring. If you notice, I made the sear adjustment screw accessible from outside the fastened trigger guard. That way all I have to is remove the action from the stock and adjustments can be made. Observant readers will probably notice yet another trigger spring. I am working on two separate springs next. One for the actual trigger pull and one for the sear reset. I am going to make the sear adjustable for pull weight and leave the trigger pull set and non adjustable. This way I should have full adjustability (within a small range) of the overall trigger pull. The spring for the actual trigger will fit around the over-travel set screw and will be a coil type. It will need to only be very small, as its main function will be to reset the trigger to the sear. The sear will be more of a challenge, as I have made an adjustable plunger for it, but getting it so it can be adjusted from outside the sealed assembly is my main challenge. It will also be of a coil type, but I am not 100% convinced it needs to be adjustable yet. I may not, as only further testing will tell.

What about drilling and tapping vertically (go in from the bottom) for a set screw in that front portion of the trigger so the screw rests on the housing... Use that to adjust for creep?

A popular trigger mod in the US was to do just that--drill and tap one hole in the bottom of the trigger box and install a set screw there, then do the same for another thru the front of the trigger box, as shown in the pic Father posted.

My daughter and I both bought ourselves one. She is a little reluctant to do any work on hers but mine was bought specifically as a project rifle. Can't wait to take it to the range for the "Before" set of shots before I start working on the modifications.

I am excited to join the ranks of the NS-522 fans!!

mine shot a nice 1 foot group today at about 25 yards............................I might have to put a scope on it, lol, kidding of course, just wanted to make sure everything functioned ok after disassembly, cleaning and reassembly, and it did, going to do a little polishing etc before I put glass on it, thanks to this thread I know it can be smoother and just how to accomplish it.
