Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

I made an improved version of the single shot adapter today. It didn't take more time but I cut all the slots deeper and polished the adapter with 400 grit paper. Also, I sanded the feed ramp in an angle for better feeding.
The adapter is a perfect fit. It has a firm catch in the mag well and feeds nicely. I'm happy with it. :)

Got mine today,
Thanks man,
Dave

I always use brake cleaner and it works well.

Grrrr. In some places brake cleaner is banned!! It strips all the oil out of the metal. My duty pistol wasn't new when it was issued to me. Seemed some idiot used brake cleaner causing the metal to be dry/brittle. The slide was scratching itself. No amount of regular oil seemed to fix it. G96 was the only thing that brought it back and fixed the issue. The specifically forbid using brake cleaner during training because of this very problem.

Honestly guys, these weren't hard to clean. Get an old larger towel. Wipe it down. G96 a bit and wipe it down. Take the bolt apart. Wipe it with the same towel and then spray some G96 on it. I then use Shell Roteilla 0W40 pure synthetic diesel oil on the high wear need to lube points. A quick patch through the barrel and then spray some more G96, another patch, one last spray and done. I cleaned four of these things in the time many of you are claiming you cleaned 1. It was easy. If you're really worried about the barrel, spray some foaming bore cleaner in there and then put a patch down later.

Easy to clean. Once I figured out how the bolt goes back and how to uncock it to put it in, disassemble/reassembly was fast.

I wonder if these mags could be modded to work.....AR7 mags.

Nope.
Tried it today. The AR7 mags are wider, when comparing the two the AR7 looks like a .22WMR magazine in comparison.

Thought I would just share some pictures of my NS522. So far I have pillar bedded, free floated the barrel and the safety pin trigger spring.
Also refinished the stock with about 5 or 6 coats of boiled linseed oil. Now the wife wants me to refinish her stock.

excellent job w0nd. Your stock almost looks identical to mine (the grain). Same dark spot in front of the bolt but mine is a bit bigger.

Just put on my first coat of Linseed oil a little while ago.

wOnd, nice job on the stock! I had one of my 522s out today (Christmas Day at the range!) on a beautiful day with temps of 60 degrees (F) and relatively light winds. We may have just started a new Christmas tradition--hotdogs and potato chips for lunch, then off to the range to shoot the .22s. Life doesn't get much better than that....

w0nd, that looks really good. What did you use to strip the original finish? I am in the process of stripping mine. Never seen a finish so hard to strip.
Circa 1850 would not even begin to take it off and I now have a bit of a mess. My plan was painting OD green like the one earlier in the thread.
Will post some pics when its cleaned up and done.. might even stick my GP100 in the photo.

I sanded mine right down with 100 grit sandpaper. It took a while then switched to 150 and 220. If I was to do it again I would be using some paint stripper.

It looks a thousand times better now. A little work goes a long way. Nice job.

What did you use to infill the bolt recess, it looks good!

Candocad.

From everything I have read it is the chlorine that comes in some brake cleaners that is the major issue. That particular brake cleaner is banned in certain states because of the gases it can give off if exposed to high heat. It is also written that the chlorine can allow chemicals to penetrate deeper into the metal and after time can cause metals to become more brittle.

If you have used it on your guns I wouldn't panic, just don't make it a habit and get the non-chlorinated. I have yet to have an issue with the AC/Delco. Just keep it well lubed. Any harsh cleaner may damage certain finishes, rubber, or plastic so be careful what you do use and where you use it.

I have used the non-chlorinated form many times for many years and it works great and fast. There are hundreds of products out there and this is what works for me. I generally will only use it for the first cleaning of cosmoline and general crud. A good lubrication afterward is advised. After that a routine cleaning schedule with a quality gun cleaner and lubricant is all I use.

As mentioned these guns are not difficult to clean once you figure out how everything comes apart. They are nowhere near as bad as the cosmoline loaded in the Sks's.

Thanks every one. I just used some gel easy stripper from home depot. Then sanded it down 80 grit to 220 grit. I did fill in the bolt cut out............... I used a piece of teak and just trimmed and sanded it. Took a bit to get the angles right.

Got out yesterday to shoot mine for the 1st time. Pillar bed, action bed, redo stock, polish some trigger parts. No need to free float as this happened after the pillar was done. Also didn't touch the trigger spring as I'm happy with stock.

Conditions were less then ideal, 40+ km winds, sitting in a grassy field on a non fixed bipod shooting at a target taped to a tree lol. Anyways, me and my buddy who has the same gun but not modified loved shooting these. Looking forward to some target ammo and better conditions in a couple of weeks. Here are pics from mine. 10 shot group @ 30 yards with federal red box. Will do 50 yard groups next...

ok, the mods are almost done: trigger needs alittle bit of work, but in general the work turned out pritty well :)

Rifle Stock: Walther pellet rifle stock, completely reworked to accept NS522 barreled action.
Trigger: overtravel screw installed and main spring changed, but more work is required.

I finally took mine out yesterday and today, after sighting in, it was shooting nickel sized groups at 30 yds, and they opened up to toonie size or a wee bit more at 100yds. This was with Federal Blue Box bulk ammo. So far its bone stock out of the box, I'll do the pillaring and a lighter trigger soon, as well as some CCI ammo and see if that helps.
