Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

If I was seriously considering buying one, $400.00 all in would be the very top end of what I would spend on one in in as close to new condition as possible. Any more money and I would be looking at CZ ans Anshutz as the fit and finish is a lot nicer.

Finally got a chance to shoot the NS522 a bit last week. I only brought 1 brand of ammo to try and ended up with this nice group of 5/8" outside to outside @ 50 yards.

Conditions were fairly good, just a very light breeze. Was laying down on dirt with a front rest and the butt tucked into my shoulder. Brand of ammo was Lapua Center - X.

I have a bunch of brands to try in 4 weeks including RWS, Lapua, Eley, Federal and CCI. I plan on doing a full range report and posting pics of the results.

On a rare, windless (well, almost) day in the American Southwest, I took one of my NS-522s to the range. This one has the American-style Bishop walnut stock and wears a Japanese-made BSA 24X target scope in Weaver mounts (reciever has been D&T). It has been glass-bedded and pillar bedded and currently has the factory trigger spring (trigger housing has also been D&T for sear engagement and over-travel adjusting screws). Front rest was a Caldwell Rock, with a std Caldwell rear bag. Twelve 5-shot groups at 50 yds. The smallest group measured .410" (minus .215" for bullet dia. equals .195"), while the largest group was .804" (minus .215" for bullet dia. leaves a .589" group dia. This was the only one of twelve 5 shots groups over .50"). The average group size for all twelve groups--after subtracting .215" for bullet dia.--was .371". Ammo was Federal Gold Medal Match.

I'm looking for a reduced power trigger spring, anyone have one spare for sale ?

If so, please PM me.

I recently reshaped and refinished the stock for the second time, I think it looks a little better now.
Its bedded and everything, it only need a softer spring for the trigger to complete the project.

Ben, try the safety pin spring mod. Get a package of safety pins, and then bend them to different configurations (two coils, three coils, four coils, etc) until you find one that works well for you. Cheap, quick, and easy to make after you've done a few. Or, you could fashion a few from the correct size spring stock, if you have a ready source of spring wire stock. Nice re-work of your stock, btw.

Go to your local hobby shop and they will have piano wire of many varying thicknesses. I use .032" for my 10/22 springs but it is quite cheap so easy to try a bunch of different ones till you get the right feel. Personally I would try .032" in one and two coil configurations, any more coils and they tend to bind IMO.

Thanks for the tip. I will begin by searching into 1$-stores, maybe i will be able to find a spring if i'm lucky.

Finally got mine out to the range yesterday . All I have for ammo to shoot was Winchester wildcat white box crap . Even with that , using a 4x scope I managed to do between 1/2 - 3/4 groups with no bipod or rest . I think that's not bad . I got the rifle disassembled & now cleaned . Polished the trigger group & replaced the spring with a safety pin . trigger was originally 3 lbs & quite crisp . Now it's down to about 1.5 - 2 lbs , that's good enough for me . My philosophy for shooting is to be the best you can with what you can get , you won;t always have access to match grade ammo . Looking forward to installing the over travel stop & a better scope . Still trying to find an airsoft stock to modify for the riffle . Hoping to find something like this & make it work .
