Norinco Type 97 FAQ (small update 01/04/09)

Positive or negative outcome in the wrangling?

I think that's what we need to wait for... Normally on important (or more aptly important enough to really go through the minutia) decisions, the judges can work on their written decision for some multiple of weeks or months. We'll know when we know, but likely reasonably soon.

Well, I'm really hoping for a positive outcome (yep, I've got a T97 on order) and hopefully we don't get another a$$hat decision that defies logic/reason. But then this is Canada so you never know...

No kidding, eh Brodo... I have two on order myself. (One for the missus, and one for myself).

I've got a boy on the way; Maybe I should buy three? Hmmm.... Heck; Fingers crossed we get the opportunity to buy them at all!!!!

Well, at least now I know why they changed it, but I still don't agree with it. Its about intent. This could mean that just buying/owning a firearm could mean I'm intent on using it in a crime. Just because I'm sitting on a park bench, means I have the intent to rape the next women that walks past.

Nice going RCMP, I can't believe I live in a time when thought crimes have become real crimes. :bangHead:

Im sorry, but I just gotta say, thats the ugliest rifle I have ever seen. Chinese should stick to copying other countries guns.
I've seen a lot uglier come out of Belgium lol. I don't find it particularly ugly, but then again, I prefer function to form. I'm assuming it would have been able to accept LAR mags, so it would have been a nice competitive addition for sport shooters.

Here's the question of the day: Now that the RCMP demonstrated how it can easily be converted to full auto, have there been any efforts in coming up with a technical solution that will make it classifiable as NR?

The reason why RCMP put T97 to "prohibited" was because it could be converted to full auto easily with some mechanic work, which was not rocket science, tools from Homedepot would do the job...
so my point is, if Norinco could redesign the rifle and make it impossible to be full auto, export to Canada as "Civilian version"..... I think RCMP would reclassify it.
besides, we could get our hands on T97, and Norinco could make more money, win win

ITs obvious that you aren't all that familiar with the case so let me add some simple clarity:

1. You should add the word allege to your argument because the RCMP don't actually have the right to reclassify a rifle. They allege to be able to make the change but the how or how long it takes has been kept a tightly guarded secret from day one. Even what the RCMP have told other government agencies is inconsistent.

2. Just because a rifle's status is changed in the registry that the RCMP maintain does not mean that this is reflected in the criminal code. In other words with out an OIC or act of Parliament the T97 is still according to the letter of the law the way it was from the time the RCMP FIRST classified it.

Please stop disseminating false information that only serves to confuse readers.

Thank you for the emphasis and for the correction. Many rifles can be converted to full auto with just the tools you get from Home Depot and they're still non-restricted. They picked on this one because they didn't want another attractive "evil" military-style rifle out there with NR status, especially at the Norinco price-point.
