Novelty Firearms (The Halo Magnum Pistol)

Wouldn't you be better off with a business model that built overlay chassis for popular firearms already in production?

Think Roni and what they did with Glock carbine chassis'.

You could do something similar in a handgun dress up kit and not be caught in the BS red tape that is manufacturing guns in Canada.

That's what I would think, too. Also, it would be nice to have sights on the handgun that worked in sunlight. :)

It's kind of interesting, although from a practical perspective I can't figure out how the iron sights are supposed to work. The top version looks to have a front sight about two inches from the rear sight and blocked by whatever is happening in front of that. The other versions appear to only have a rear sight. So I assume it's entirely reliant on a laser sight? The slide lock and magazine release do not appear to be functional.

It appears to be a gun designed to look cool in a video game but will not be actually functional. So that's a concern and potentially dangerous on a range.

It's an interesting idea but very niche market. The $800 guess on cost isn't terrible if it is a must have thing. Like others said a chassis system would be a better option. Designing a new firearm and the submitting the design for frt will likely mean master chief is in a retirement home before you start production.

With all due respect, these toys don't translate well into real firearms. Take a look at the bore axis in relation to where your hand MUST be due to the "beavertail?". That would be a nightmare in .22 let alone in .45 (I assume you meant acp?)
I'm not one to discourage your entrepreneurial spirit, but before you guys sink a dime, do your homework. This idea if unmodified will flop. You guys have designed a firearm with worse ergonomics than a Hi Point! (I thought it impossible, but there you have it.)

I'm actually kind of only interested if you guys make a version in something close to the specified 12.7x40. Basically I would need to see one gun chambered in .500 S&W Magnum.

Two things. You're dreaming in technicolor if you think you can tool up and produce it for only $800 a pop and cover your development and start up costs over and above the per unit production costs over a reasonable run. I doubt it would sell in the multi thousands throughout North America that you'd need to produce to make the price drop that low. And if your goal was the Canadian market only? Not a chance.

Second issue is the hand guard and lack of a proper trigger guard which would leave fingers in contact with the trigger in a lot of cases. I'd consider that a nasty safety issue and source of some pretty nasty legal suits against your company when the inevitable occurs and someone sues you for a known unsafe design feature.

And I won't get into the issue that suggests it would be laser sighted only.

All in all I think this would be fantastic as a 3d printed airsoft or BB gun. But as an actual firearm? Not so much.

Do an airsoft like people have mentioned. Bigger market. Or how about an all metal replica? As a functioning firearm it would be kind of stupid. It was designed by some artist for a fictional piece of media. And $800? Maybe if you can buy the tooling for some discontinued gun and cosmetically enhance it.

Hi all,
I'm part of a group of entrepreneurs with the University of Alberta that are looking to make and sell firearms that are replicated from video games. We're looking to get an idea of what the market size is. If we build the handgun pictured below and were able to sell it for approximately $800.00 would anyone buy it?

Key points:
- It will be built well to feel solid, with an extremely large frame
- Very little plastic will be used, the gun is meant to feel heavy
- Size would be similar to a desert eagle
- Caliber will be 45ACP

P.S.
Anyone know the legal process around becoming a manufacturer of firearms in Alberta?

Speaking as a firearms designer and manufacturer, there is no way that you could make this pistol and sell it for $800. If you are serious about this project, and this is not a troll post, then feel free to contact us for your R&D needs.

I think it is a lame idea, and if you check out the RCMP web site on fees to see what a licence will cost,
you had better have a better plan
