It's tiny, and it appears to be a little wedge that's shoved into the top of the slide? It's not a standard dovetail. I'd like to replace it with something a bit larger and more visible, but how do you get this thing out? :runaway:

It is a standard early model Colt 1911 sight. Colt have three models. narrow tenon, wide tenon and dovetalil. You want a narrow tenon.

To remove it, put a piece of tape on the slide, beside the sight; grab it with pliers and pry it staight off, like pulling a tooth.

Lots of options. I switched to fibre optic.

I help things out by lightly taking the dremel to the inside of the slide to take away some of the sight material and put a slight bevel on the inside of the square hole to peen the new blade into. Brownell tool for peening is handy.

excellent advice....and the tool makes installation dead easy, but you can do it without
