Nuisance Black Bear

My wife's sister has had a decent size [by the picture she took] Black bear hanging around
their house. I have my 325 WSM [M70 Ultimate Shadow] ready. I believe a 196 Norma Orxy
driven by 69 grains of MRP [2910 fps] should get the job done. Just waiting for her to call.
If it happens, I'll post pictures. Dave.
Here is a picture of him in their yard. Not there ATM, but soon, I hope!

It's without a doubt a nuisance just watching it being on guard, minding it's own business.

Hope the .Nitro guys chime in soon here...

He was around last year. Driving him away was not particularly successful.

I wanted to harvest him, but every time I showed up, he had found another
place to be.

Hopefully, he will make a mistake when I am around this year. Dave.

In the fall I used my 4570 for the first time on bear... didn't look any deader than with the 270 or 303 I've used in the past... maybe I'm just not shooting them right .

i find bear defence forums are full of opinions from people who have never been around or hunted bears. 303 in the vitals is more effective than 45/70 in the ass.

An excellent point- I was out bear hunting last week with a good friend who gut-shot a solid 350-400lb bear with a .375 H&H and a 270gr softpoint at about 100 yards. Damage was substantial, but he still ran 400+ yards into thick bush before laying down, took the better art of an hour to track with almost no blood trail, and required a follow-up shot to finish him after he got up and ran at us...

I would've much rather seen how a 100gr .243 to the lungs would've performed on the same bear. Doesn't much matter what you gut-shoot an animal with, it's still a gut-shot.

Young bear. A couple of loud shouts and a thrown rock should drive that little fellow off.

That`s how my daughter handles them. She could take of it the other way herself but its pointless as another one or two will take over its territory.

If they don`t get the message then the dogs always persuade them.

Animals don`t like or look for trouble.

If they are coming around repeatedly its always a reason for it like improper garbage storage etc not because they want to be d**ks. That`s a purely human thing.

thats crazy. what was the reason for the bad shot? poor conditions? bad angle? significant flinch?

Oh he had plenty of excuses, but I'll say two things: firstly, I know his rifle was properly zeroed, and secondly, I have watched him shoot his last 4 or 5 big game animals with both bow and rifle in non-vital zones (paunch, hip, leg, and the non-lethal void in the chest ahead of the lungs).

Take from that what you will... he's a good friend of mine, but doesn't listen well to advice.

That is a perfect BBQ bear... whack him and stack him... I like sausage patties, always a hit when the guys get together.

Here's one!

My friend's wife took this one with a single shot using a factory 100 gr 243 Win load.

Cool story.
