Nutters I need Your Help !!!! Emergency !!

Ask the class to define assault rifle? If someone is shot with a single shot rifle, will that be considered an assault rifle? Will a ban on assault rifles stop murders? An assault weapons ban will just create a lucrative black market for criminals to buy and sell. etc etc

This debate shouldnt be happening in this format.
Something is terribly wrong if the teacher essentially is having the class gang up against 1 kid because of their political beliefs.

Aside from that there are no assault weapons legal in canada just weapons that looks scary to the public. Show a pic of a mini-14 in a wood stock and one of an AR. The AR the class would consider an assault weapon even though both guns have same magazine capacity, shoot the same round and fire at the same rate (semi). Then show them a picture of a mini-14 in some sort of archangel stock (which again the class would think is an assault weapon because it looks scary) then tell them its the exact same gun as the wood one except in a different stock. Long as you use logic kids be screwed.

The major issue with the anti crowd is that there is no understanding of what firearms are actually about (which explains alot of canadian gun laws who where made by people who dont know the first thing about guns). Honestly this could be taken as a chance to educate kids on what firearms are actually about instead of a teacher putting them off guns because they are all "used to kill babies".

Aside from all that though have a talk with a teacher about what he/she is doing and tell them if they want a proper debate to not bias the kids into thinking one way and to not have them team up against 1 kid. If the teacher doesnt listen talk the the principal and im sure you will get results because this goes against at least the Ontario education systems standards of teaching

Maybe your daughter should read out to the class what the definition of an "assault rifle" really is.
And then she can tell the class that they are already banned(more or less) in Canada and have been for years.
After all, school is about learning the correct definitions of terms, not some political propaganda.

I like this idea.

Plus, the criminals don't obey anyway one.

How about relating it to phones a muzzle loader is to rotary phones as an iPhone 5 is to a modern sporting rifle.

I never really liked the "assault" terminology as that is something not available to the public and is specifically for military use so does this teacher wish to disarm our military...

I would still protest the whole ordeal and call the school board to complain.

I think that the principle needs a talking to , This is complete BS. The government is programing the kids politically while they should be learning usefull info about how to survive in a piece of crap economy ?. These kids are not even aloud to vote ! and the school is pushing political views on them ? WTF is going on ? !!!

What you do is call the teacher and tell him/her that your daughter is not taking part in this peice of crap debate !!!

The more i think about this thread the more irate i get.

My kid would not be going back to that class until that " Debate " was over with ...

Another good one. There was a thread around here somewhere with that theme. Guess the prohib or something.

Yea guys I am aware of all this and on your side I personally own 16 Ars. Looking for actual points that can help her in the debate. I'm already calling the school tomorrow.

Srry i missed this quote ... Politely and calmly call the school and explain how dissapointed you are with the situation.

I cant even help you ... where do you start ? we would be here all night. Just seems like such a waste of time and breath.

I would try and take a video and just play it. Anti's are so ignorant its like arguing with a wall ... they dont even know that your not supposed to drink the patuli oil !!!

Imagine what patuli oil would do to your brain ?

They are talking about banning the remaining ar black rifle platform. In semi auto form. Saying they should all be banned. Why does someone need to own a restricted bushmaster for shooting paper ect... Was really hoping for some more well thought out answers not just the teach/ school is retarded. Thanks guys I already know. I'm a Canadian champion shooter I own over 100 guns. I'm not an anti and im not happy about the school but need to help her for Tommorow. I am looking for a few ideas/suggestions that I haven't thought of. Thanks

I would have that entire topic shut down now, this is the wrong format for this debate. If you have the time go in prior to class and have a meeting with the teacher and principal. Inform them that this is a topic that you will not tolerate as it goes against your long standing culture of hunting, fishing, and proud Canadian military heritage. This is not a topic that a teacher should be approaching in class, and could very well alienate your daughter and subject her to ridicule and bullying based off of her beliefs. Alienation and bullying by students, and in this case it could also be the teacher (been there and stood my ground with snide anti teachers before), is frowned upon and in this case being against her personal beliefs could turn out to be a personal attack manipulated by the teacher. If this went any further I'd be calling for her job and that of the principal.

Go in if you have time and raise hell, it's far better than a phone call.

May I ask what the class is in order to get better context on why they're having the "assault rifle" debate? Perhaps if the teacher were to divide the students equally and have them debate the pros and cons based off of research instead of allowing a 31 to 2 debate this could be allowed given it's in the context of the class and makes the kids use their brains and learn to research. This format however is plain and simple division and conquering and has already gone too far, I'd shut it down if I were in your shoes.

Still this is a good opportunity to educate your daughter that there is no assault rifles legally owned by her father or allowed in Canada.

I would keep my daughter home tomorrow and call the Principal in the morning. This is a seriously inappropriate topic for a grade 8 class.

How about this?
The same rifle (Ruger 10/22) shooting the same round, (.22LR).
Logic dictates, they are identical.
Emotion makes one 'scarier' than the other.

Oh, and the image in Max Renegade's sig file - so, so relevant.
