If you have the background you say you do, I'd be surprised if you didn't investigate at least one case of stolen data being used to further commit targeted criminal activity.
Plenty of cases of cars being broken into in one location away from the home, and the home break ins occurring using the documents contained within to identify the vacant addresses. Less sophisticated, but no different.
Here is a case out of ontario where stolen, confidential data was accessed illegally and sold.
