I am thinking of siging up for this course in the next week or so, as it is coming to my area. Just wanted to make sure that it is a one time deal, as in, I do the test, and am permanently eligible for turkey licenses.

Thanks!

OOoooooooooooo OOooooooooooooo OOooooooooooo
I want to be the first to say it.
IT SUCKS, ITS A MONEY GRAB!!

but yeah, one time deal, untill another animal is re introduced, how long till the OFAH wants us to take the elk course??

btw I am a member of the OFAH

Register asap, as those fill up, and its a long wait until next spring....

The content is all basic knowledge, and the exam is a breeze.... I have "heard of a guy" who showed up, registered in the morning, then headed out to timmies for a coffee and do some shopping, then showed up in time to sit down a receive the test.... but he did get 1 answer wrong!

Once you do it, you will be glad its done and you are set from here on out.

Bring a pillow.

The instructors I had were great and tried their best to keep a boring and useless course entertaining.
The course material itself is worthless (unless you are completely new to hunting as a whole) but with the right instructors there is a lot of experience to be had and absorbed from the "fillers" they add.

Thanks guys. Ya I agree that it is a complete and total money grab. So for someone like myself, who has taken the standard hunter education course, but has never been hunting.... will the test still be a breeze, or should I be taking notes?

Also, how long does the course go now that they have shortened it? It says it starts at 9am, but doesn't specify how many hours it is.

The biggest waste of time there is. Wasted a whole day for that garbage. Totally pushing the AFAH. They peddle there wares and bore you to deathfor 6 hours. I took it 7 or 8 years ago. Thankfully a one-shot deal.

PS- One of the reasons I ditched the OFAH. Waste of money and resources.

I recently took the course - its been reduced to a half day. I found it beneficial as I knew squat about turkey hunting before. Seems that a good portion of the course dealt with how to avoid being shot by other turkey hunters... Not sure how I feel about that. Couple that with the fact that about 15% of the course opted to be tested verbally...

Just think once your finished, your a professional like everyone else that took it LOL J/K Everyone is on the same level in the woods. Its also cut back to a half of day.

There more to complain about other then a course that proves safety...

AJH - I think you may have missed my point. I'm not complaining about the safety aspects of the course, I'm more concerned about the aptitudes of the proponents taking the course, and the associated risks in the field....

FWIW - The commercial stuff was dropped in the half day course. The instructors did not mention any brand names at all, and there were no hardware displays.

what a waste of my life that was. Kudos to the instructors though they did the best they could to keep things slightly higher than morbid.

zzzzzzzzzz could have passed the test without taking the course

Only complaint I have with the turkey course, and I think this is the problem with all hunting and firearms courses is that it is too easy, it's been dumbed down so any yahoo with a single active brain cell can pass. We have no problem with spending tons of money and time chasing down hardware but when it comes to information, we know it all.

Your right, we need way more information to hunt turkeys then what is covered in that BS course, give your head a shake and go sit in a field on a crisp may morning.... all the education you need.

Yea I did and some yahoo shot my decoy from 10 feet behind me.
And I am sure he had all the courses, my question is why he passed?
People like that should be weeded out right at the PAL course.:nest:
