**OFFICAL*** The Type 97NSR is Non restricted!!!

Yes it is but as i have said many times before on this forum owning firearms is not a fashion show or beauty pageant .. The most important things to look at when buying a firearm especially when your life may depend on it one day are , capability , reliability , quality, handling ect.. Aesthetics should be be the very last thing on someones list ..... Remember when the Glock came out ? people thought it was the ugliest piece of crap ever and many steered clear, many still do lol , turned out to be one of the best pistols ever ..

^Of course, I should have specified external dimensions. Yes they look identical, I guess it doesn't really matter since we will never see an original T97A.

So how long do you think it will take before the RCMP changes their mind and makes it prohibited

I'm a little confused here, it's a non-restricted rifle and there is no longer a registry. How do you prohib something that you have no record of anyone owning?

that doesn't change that fact that if you would not comply in giving up your firearm and you are found out, you face some serious consequences.

it is a non-res firearm, it is not going prohibited so stop worrying.

Media blitz, letters to every PAL holder advising of the change of classification and an amnesty.

Then when the amnesty is up, and if they find you, they charge you criminally, take your reclassed gun and all of its friends.

Then if you are lucky, you pay a bunch of money to a lawyer to stay out of jail.

Of course that is just a guess.

So is there a rhyme/reason as to who gets the 2 sample guns? I know that Wanstalls has one now and that it's making its rounds around the stores. Do they organize the exchange and then whoever has it advertises it? Does NS say "ok you guys get it for 2 weeks, then it's those guys"? Is there a set schedule? I heard that one was in Ontario but only after it made its way to BC and I'd really like to fondle what I will be buying

Key thing right there.

Anyways, all the nonsense about prohibition aside, I think have a temporary optic solution until a more formal one comes up:

A red dot or long eye relief scope of some sort.

Does anyone know how high the front sight is over the barrel?

NM - based on the pictures, the barrel is about 1.25x the length of a .223 round (2.26" x 1.25 = 2.825").

The front sight looks like it's 1.25-1.4x the length of a .223 round (2.825" - 3.164")

It would look kind of silly, but you could stack 2-3 of those risers to get the right height.

You still could get a decent check weld too, I think.

I have a VERY similiar system on my CZ858. Last week, prone unsupported I did a 3" 10 round grouping at 100 yards, and I was able to shoot lollipops at 50 yards using a bushnell 2-6x handgun scope...

While I'm not usually a fan of barrel mounting things that is good thinking! Might be a decent short term solution for an optic mount.

Just get the RS rail. It's CNC aluminum and made for the 97 chassis. They are $25.

This thread shows the optics I plan to run:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?926205-T97-optics-options

I bought a see-through mount from TooTall (I think) back before the CanAm shipment got prohi'd so I'd probably run one too... that being the case, maybe I'd mount a red dot on that rail, and if possible, a scope mount which I could use a decent cheek weld with.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, the overall height of the rifle is tighter than I had imagined, for me a cheek weld with an optic will be no problem. I have to hunch down to see through the irons.

I had seen the video this morning too before it went private. In the video it showed the plastic around the ejection port melting after the 880 rounds. I wonder how bad it's melted
