OK boys, talk me into a Savage

I couldn't be bothered to read the whole thread but I would recommend you buy a savage and give it a try. If you don't like it there's always the EE. I have two and they both shoot great. They aren't handcrafted wonderguns but they are functional and accurate.

Yeah I didn't really understand the whole anti-savage crowds #OccupySavageThread thing they had going on, but it's taken a real sort of "Deliverance" turn here at the end. I think I'll just be happy with my rifles and call it quits for this thread.

Ya, The OP already bought one and seems very happy with it so nothin more to see here. The anti's can go back to thier kimber. cooper, sako threads and stroke each others ego's while we go to the ranges and woods and fields to do good shooting and hunting :D

The Ironic thing is that Some of Your so called "Anti's" out there can do some pretty good shooting and hunting themselves. The Best part is that I do own a Kimber,Cooper and Sako Rifle....Thanks for coming out

Very nice bucks WTJ ! I especially like the one with the droptine off the base. A droptine whitetail is still something i havn't found but want to
And when I find one it will die by Savage :p I think our main difference is I dont think its cool to go around the internet trash talking other peoples choice of equipment and gear (unless its dead meats tikka :p ) Congrats on the beauty bucks and keep up the good hunting :)

No one in my Family uses savage rifles and the Racks are hanging on our walls.Look at this alright W\T buck shot in 2011 with a Browning A-Bolt 30-06
250 yards through the heart!! have you shot any nice whitetail in SK? or just dumb donkey deer?

I think you're exhausting fom the intake & intaking from the Exhaust!
Nice picture of Daddy's WT-- when you get old enough to hunt off the internet then get back to us;)

I believe that there was no intent to bash one's equipment, but to critique one particular firearm, and that is todays Savage bolt action rifles. It appears that some people take it personal when equipment is judged. We were not talking about the person, but "only" a rifle.
The floor is open to debate Coopers, Sako's, Weatherby's, Kimbers, etc. To start another debate..............I have no use for Barnes TSX bullets.

On the flipside, Savage owners think everything else is overpriced.

I spend a fair amount of time looking at my guns when I'm sitting in a bear or deer stand and other times of the year when there's no hunting and I'm cleaning them, etc. I doubt I'm alone in that respect.

What I don't want to spend my time looking at is 1/4" high mold lines on stocks, cast lines on bolt handles, Indian Chief head stenciled on bolts, bluing rubbing off when you run your finger along it, giant barrel nut, barrel markings that were written by someone on a caffeine high with a metal scribe, 1/2" gaps between metal and stock.......the list goes on.

Maybe I should get a Savage, then I'd spend more time looking out the window for game.......... :p

Actually most of us own more expensive rifles we just appreciate the simple effectivness of a Savage.

You can spend more money but you can't really buy more accuracy, no matter how much you spend.

Accuracy isn't that important to me in a hunting rifle. I don't carry a lead sled and bench around with me. If it's shoots around 1-1.5 moa from a bench that's plenty.

Then expect to hear this phrase a lot!!

Nice gun, too bad you can't hit anything with it

I have hit plenty with hunting rifles that shoot 1 - 1.5 MOA. Something tells me that bearkilr likley has aswell.

I'll give up fractions of an inch in group size for a good handling, well-built big game rifle without ever looking back. Some people seem to forget something about big game animals...they're big...with big vitals, that are generally easy to hit.

I'll have people know though, that I am not a Savage hater. I actually own a Savage rimfire. I am not opposed to owning a Savage centrefires either but it is very unlikely that I will ever use one as a serious big game hunting rig.

I've gone through a pile of firearms in my lifetime and can say that 99% of them shoot better than the average hunter is capable of in a hunting situation.
Your .5 MOA Savage with Berger's won't help you much when a whitetail is running across a swamp at 150 yards and you're shooting off hand out of breath.

Agreed! All of my rifles shoot Sub-MOA and less where that kind of accuracy is not really required for hunting. Big game vital killing area is much larger than a 1/2 inch clover leaf bullet grouping. Moreover, I've harvested well over 100 big game animals at the average distance of 150 yards. The longest shot I ever took was 310 paces.
Why do I target the 1/2 inch grouping? I'm an old reloader and the journey to find that happy medium load, (highest volocity/accuracy combo) and integrity of the firearm is an enjoyable experience.

:) Same here, and I like the confidence that those small tight groups impart when in the field.
