One rifle, one cartridge, one load for everything

That is his personal rifle that he stocked in the 60’s I believe. A pre 64 Model 70 7X57 that he rechambered to 7MM Rem Mag. It’s the only rifle he hunted with since then. I can’t imagine how many high end rifles he built since then.

Seems like he was a great gunsmith and very nice/humble guy.

Something tells me he could shoot that 7mm RM just a bit ;)

In the spirit of the thread title, here is another one that has hunted the globe as a single choice out of a pretty nice collection of rifles. This one is a 300 H&H.

Beauty of a rifle. Nice choice of glass too!

Looks at home out in the elements with that pack, hunting hard.

There was a time .... when nearly every trapper in the Boreal forest had a Winchester 94 in 30-30 .... and that was his only gun all winter long ... and to keep his pantry stocked ... and till spring arrived and which allowed for the journey to resupply from one of the trading posts.

If the 30-30 worked for so many trappers and bushwhacker in the past .... what is wrong with it today?

A horse and buggy worked back in the day but you don't see many of them now do you?

Good point ... but do we really need a Ferrari to drive 100 km/h on the highway and to get from point A to point B?

I think you misunderstood. But whatever. As a PH he packed a 375. But does point out being out gunned by many of his clients. The “romantic” American no doubt.

Thomas also used, and spoke highly of .458 Lott. He was also a fan of the Rhino solid shank 380gr in .375.

You have to have 2 at least, unless you use a shotgun for small game. For SG an accurate bolt action 22lr with iron sights. For large game, a 30 cal, 270 or 7mm.

Come to think of it, a 6.5swede would do really well too. Everything from varmints to moose and black bears.

308 win 150 gr core lock. I know it's white trash...but just saying...facts are facts. If you know you know. If you only get one shot one caliber one opportunity. ( insert M&M) enough said..
I know....Remington corelock....

But as an amateur 35+ years of hunting. They are still king....well as long as the new owners keep with the old proven tech.....ps I'm still running ammo bought 10 years ago....... but they work in my book...

Close second is my 30-30....

trade you some 150's for a little maple syrup .. :)

Iv always been a .375 h&h lover, but recently received my grandads old custom rifle, a 375-338wm on a pre 64. After a few weeks with it now, I think I have a new favourite. If I had to pick 1 rifle from my safe to use forever, this would be it.
