Ontario CFO Process Times

Well first i would wait about 2 weeks from the date you mailed it for it to show up online. and then wait until it says "in progress" then you can call up and get your interview done and then get the app ref# from them or it should be online as well and get your chaps to call in and press 1 then 1 then 2239.
HOWEVER if you are ONLY applying for non restricted there will be no interview for you or no need for your references to call in.

1. Don't wait until it is online, call before that and that often gets it online the next day.
2. PAL is PAL whether for unrestricted or restricted, not everyone has references called but calling references is not only for restricted applications.
How to save time:

calalta and justbrowsing, thank you for your input. i called the CFC as my application was received this morning according to my tracking number via Canadapost. The women said i was not in the system yet, perhaps i was a bit optimistic about how fast they operate :p ill call at the end of the week if it has not appeared online. Any ideas about time it takes for the application to appear "in progress" once online? i am so sick of waiting, 5 weeks for CFO test stamp, then however long this will take (two months?) then another wait for an ATT... at least ill be an official member at my local pistol club before i have a PAL.

calata - I have called 2x and neither time can I get the person to go "check" for my application. They have both told me the same thing that I have to wait until it gets put into the system.

just checked online. now it says :

Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

so, one week after receiving it and 2 phone calls.

I sent mine registered and called about four days after delivery to query the lack of online acknowledgment and it was in the system the next day. That was their practice but maybe they have changed that.

yea just got them back for both tests for roughly 5 weeks, just sent in my application I'd like to be licensed by june so I can have a hobby for the summer :)

sounds right..... send xpresspost, status changed to "in process".... wait (in my case) 3-4 weeks they called references. all were home, including me (really helps that they can reach everyone!), they re-asked the questions. status next day as "approved". received rpal within one week. bought gun, waited less than one week to pick up. took safety course(my fault i waited), got LTATT 3 weeks later.

Mine was received on May 10th and my status is: "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date." i have an application number should i call in for my interview?

Mine was received by them on April 20th, just checked this morning and it is approved and in the mail. Exactly the minimum time period I believe, they called both references and me on May 5th, this was my first application and is PAL with Restricted.. Now just waiting for the mail.

called in did my interview, very easy straight forward. Essentially the same questions as on the application. Was then given an extension to give to my references to call. I used the application number quoted online, with no issues.

Did my PAL course/exam the week before Easter 2011. Just received my licence on August 29. This was in Ontario.

There was a mailstrike in there, so i'd say the entire process, minus the strike, was 4 months, with the majority of it being the results time.

Just an FYI, I spoke with the Ontario Ombudsmen office about the delays in transfer and new purchase approvals. They informed me that they are aware and have received several complaints on the delays Ontarian's face from the CFO office. They also informed me that after having looked into it they were told that it all boils down to staffing issues and staffing hiring freezes set out by the Provincial Government. I tried to explain to them that the delays aren't something new "due to staffing issues" and that they have been this way for a long time now but unfortunately they deal with the here and now.

So my next step will be to contact my local MP and have a discussion as to why BC who has approximately the same number of licensed firearms owners gets their approvals withing a couple days and Ontarian's are often waiting months. Hell, the CFO in Alberta in a lot of cases has the approvals out in hours!

The CFO office's need to be run by bipartisan staff and be accountable to the tax payers that pay their salaries!
