Ontario spring turkey 2016

Well, opening day was an interesting one. Called in two nice jakes at first light, then proceeded to miss the bloody shot at 25 yards! Im still trying to figure out how, but if i was to blame something, i would pick the earmuffs. Fast forward 4 hours...i called in a huge tom to about 20 yards when i decided to drop the hammer. Cant wait to put him on a scale. He's far bigger then my bird last year

Congrats! That is a huge bird!

We tried to call in a few Tom's, but they did not want to play. I got a weird feeling about my car and when I went back I saw that I got a nice surprise from the welcome wagon. Someone threw a fist size stone through my back windshield. I guess they were upset they could not trespass to hunt this morning. I am cooling me heels in a auto glass store. I will post pics later.

That was not a hunter that threw the stone... that was an anti-hunter... there are plenty out there... and when they see cars parked where they aren't normally, they know what is going on... cowardly, low-class criminals.

Thats horrible! Im very sorry to hear. I hope the jack off responsible for that suffers from a lifetime of explosive diarrhea.

Well, its official..this is definitely my biggest bird by weight....according to my Berkley fish scale, its 26.7lbs. The spurs are 1.5" long and the beard is 8.5". The sting and sick stomach feeling of missing my shot on the early morning jake has since subsided.

Long Beard Down!

30 minutes into opening day and my tag was filled. I called him in from a 100 yards away and took the shot at 35 yards. He's a pretty decent tom at 21 1/2 lbs. with a 9 1/4" beard and 1 1/4" spurs. Now I have to help my brother bag his bird.

Some people can be real dicks, when you go back and I would just to set them up, put a couple of trail cameras watching your car and catch the jerk next time. Maybe take your wife's car just in case.

Between 0515 and 0800 someone threw a rock through the back window. I could see where someone drove over my tire tracks and stop behind the car, get out and I assume throw the rock, then turn the vehicle around an leave. The Acura manual behind the passenger seat stopped the rock. I duct tapped a hessian square blind material to the window to to stop the glass from falling in. Don't leave home without duct tape! LOL. I mentioned in some earlier posts that I have been having problems with trespassers. I removed a bunch of blinds, game cams, and tree stands over the past week. I also left notes that the equipment was with the OPP. I would not be surprised if someone decided to get some payback. I did a report to the police on the phone, as they would not be sending a cop out. I said but CSI can solve like 5 murders in a hour. The dispatcher just laughed. The guy at the glass place was great. He offered me to use his truck to get the wife and I back out hunting. She was pretty upset, so we just stayed at the shop. He was pretty pissed that most likely a local would do something like that. The new window and labour was $320. If I do get a turkey this spring, it will be the most expensive animal I have hunted!

Oh. Today is my birthday. What a day! I got a case of beer once we got back to the city. I earned it.

I will ask a buddy to come up with some of his game cams next weekend. An it WAS the wife's car LOL!

If $320 is the most expensive animal you have hunted, you are light years ahead of me!

That still sucks...

Hunting mid day is better than most people think
Hens go back to their nests and toms still want to breed
I shot one just after 9 this morning, it is always a 9am spot... the Tom came from quite a distance through the bush gobbling like crazy
Probably more gobbling than I herd after fly down

Last year I took my 5 year old at 12:00 to make sure she didn't feel left out, and rather than get her up at stupid o clock in the morning this seemed like a good choice
It took less than 1/2 hour to have a Tom on the ground
You never know
