Optics for service rifle?

Did you google it? I'm talking about a 1-7x, x 24mm here with a 30mm tube, illuminated dot, and low profile turrets. I guess that wasn't clear from the model number I posted.

Looks pretty awesome to me, and it's my understanding Hirsch Precision will be getting them this summer for around $1000. It's entirely possible this could be the best civi alternative to the new Leupold 1.1-8, especially at 1/3 the price, and proper warranty here in Canada.

I'm not sure how the 7X magnification is going to do, but, Sightron is kinda kicking Leupold's butt these days, especially on price.

These use the same capped turrets as the Bushnell Elite 6500 line. They're made by a company in Japan called Light Optics that makes scopes and scope components for many OEMs. If you're thinking of running this with the turrets exposed, you might want to look at one of the Elite 6500 scopes and take note of how easy it is to pull them up for re-zeroing. The potential for doing it by accident and losing your zero is pretty high...

Not available. They're being re-designed to be true 1x, a little shorter and a little lighter. Shot Show reports say the new version will cost around $4k (like the CQBSS and Short Dot). Your best bet for a 1-8x is going to be the new USO that will be around $1900 for the FFP version and $2500 for the DFP version. Should be available by summer.

The 1-10x IOR is available from CSS Optics here in Canada. I believe the 1-10x March is also available from Kelby's.

While up at the range the other day I met a member from here who had an Elcan.

OMG. I am sold on that optic.

1x-4x with the pull of a locking lever.

So, my piggy bank will have to get fat first until I can get one. But I will have one.

Last summer, first, second and third place in NSCC Service Rifle Open Class were won by shooters using: 2 1/2 - 10 Nightforce; Elcan C79; Elcan C79. One of the Elcans was on a box stock Eagle Arms (Armalite) 20" AR, the other was on a SwissArms. FWIW.

Kombayatch - have you ever seen one of the March scopes? Know if they are available?

I didn't want to start a new thread, but what optics are well suited for the service rifle CQB? After some research, it seems most running AR platforms are using 1-4X riflescopes with some illumination (fire dot/red dot/donut) for fast target acquisition ie. Millet DMS-1, Vortex PST, Leupold AR, etc.) -- anyone running 1x red dots like CompM4's, Sparcs or TRS-25's?

Tiriaq - not that particular model, but I've seen other models. They're all way ahead of the pack in terms of weight and have excellent glass. I've been told that Kelby's has the 1-10x.

Pretty much everything is used by somebody, including irons. Lots of guys shoot red dots. If that is what you have, go for it.

I personally a sight that is easy to adjust for elevation but that is me. I don't know if most participants adjust their elevation for different distances like I do. It's not totally necessary if you can remember aim offs. I can't so I spin the turrets.

As a follow up on the red dot, I forgot about the Lucid HD7. It is a red dot with adjustable turrets. Kind of the best of both worlds. I just finished reading a review on them and it was favorable. ht tp://www.phaselinegreentactical.ca/resources/Lucid%20HD%207.pdf

If I was looking for a red dot for CQB, I would certainly consider it.

It looks like a great red dot for the price! Nice review i found on YouTube:

For a non magnified red dot the new Aimpoint Pro model is a pretty solid deal, including the mount and lens caps for good price. Several sponsors have them in stock .

Has anyone used this or a similar ballistic reticle for SR? I like the idea of not adjusting elevation knob for known ranges.

That works great IF the ballistics of your load match the reticle and IF you can remember where to hold when you get to the line.....after a run down.....after a long day on the range.

Me, I'm not smart enough for that but.....that's me. For others it is great. Turning knobs can be a liability too, especially if your scope does not let you clearly see if you have made a full turn already like the Falcon.

Canadian Eh was having real good luck with this Elcan Spectre on the weekend. The hash marks matched up really well with his load.

I think I'd have the same or better luck remembering to hold over with the correct reticle dot than I would adjusting my elevation pre-run down. More than a couple times last year I forgot to adjust elevation, despite Tim's less than subtle reminders from behind the mound.

It's the Burris MTAC 1-4x-24mm that has the reticle, looks pretty nice but not a lot of reviews available.

I know that, for me, if I had a choice of aiming marks, I would surely use the wrong one. I'm much more comfortable with twisting the elevation knob. Similarly, I'll use the windage to apply a correction, rather than holding off, at least for the basic setting.
Going to be trying out a new scope, a 6500 1 1/4-8; has 17 minutes of elevation per turn. That is more than enough in one revolution for 100m through 500m. This should reduce the opportunity to be out one revolution. I keep my elevations taped to my rifle
I'm going to have a go at making a little clamp on collar for the elevation, to provide a positive zero stop.

Return to Zero stop sounds like a nice feature. Just read a review for the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 over at AR15.com and it uses a set of shims installed under the turret caps that act as a stop once you find your zero.

Anyone have experience with the Viper PST 1-4x24? Looks like another decent option.
