P226 vs CZ75

I'm not sure if field stripping should ever need to be a metric in choosing a handgun.

i'm not saying it should be. but field stripping a sig 22X is as easy as it gets and easier than the cz. just clarifying because that post made it sound like the opposite.

Understood.

CZ is a bit fiddly, really, as is the Glock. Both for similar reasons. Not difficult, just fiddly.

Difficult would be more like some .22 pistols out there, like the Ruger Mark series. VERY fiddly!

..though I suppose for the Ruger a field strip is really a detail strip.

I'm just rambling. Caffeine and fatigue. Horrible mix.

Both top notch pistols....cz shadow is my fave...but I won't sell my p-226, they are very different, but equally awesome in their own rights.....choose which ever one fits you best...you'll be back for the other soon enough...lol

That is what i gather. I just picked up my first Ruger Mark (a MkII target with a 6 7/8 barrel) and have been watching you tube videos on how to break it down. definitely a little quirky.

Sigs are well respected pistols in many circles, but personally, I would go for the CZ. I have a pre-B CZ75 that can shoot better than I can and also a Shadow. The ergos are great on both.

I've owned a CZ75b, CZ97b, P220, (3) P226's, P239, SP2022...

Of the CZ75b vs P226 I've owned, I kept the P226 as it:

1) Fits my hand better. CZ75 has a slim grip and my large hands weren't as comfortable as they are in the larger P226
2) Better ergonomics and fit for the P226, making recoil more manageable and predictable
3) Better trigger, SRT trigger is to die for. Base P226 and base CZ75b triggers - I'd still give the edge to the P226. Shot the Shadow, it does have an excellent trigger (like SRT better).
4) Siglite Night Sights are excellent, better than the base 3 dot I had on my 75. I realize the up-level Shadow has fiber optic, I'd say those are very good too.
5) Fit and Finish, both are quite good. The SS versions that I've seen, Sig wins hands down. CZ97 and 75 were nice, my Sig's Nitron coating is just to another level
6) Sig Caliber X-Change kits = another caliber in seconds. 40 mags work in 9mm and give it extra legal capacity

Sig P226 just works better for me. To each their own, but this is my experience. I sold all my CZ's and kept the P226 & SP2022. P220 was my favourite .45 but I got rid of the caliber. Regret selling the P239, what a great pistol. Hated the CZ97b, thought it was top heavy, felt unbalanced and couldn't shoot it worth sh!t. Then everyone I took to the range could shoot like gangbusters with it. Sold it almost immediately. Sig's just work for me. Shadow is a better pistol than the plain 75, but I won't be trading my P226 or SP2022 (poor man's polymer 226) for anything.

I own a made in Germany P226 and a CZ Shadow. The CZ was my first handgun, the one I shoot the best and is still stock. The Sig P226 is a good gun, no question about it but I am not as accurate with it. Modifications or features I recommend for the P226 are a short reset trigger, a lighter hammer spring and the E2 grips. But to be honest, after all those modifications, I am still more accurate with the CZ.

Sig P226 after mods VS CZ Shadow:
Trigger pull = CZ
Trigger reset = Sig
Sights = CZ
Grip = CZ
Mag release = both
Slide removal = Sig
Fit and finish = Sig

Sig annoyances = I have to change my grip on the gun or my right thumb prevents the slide from locking back because of the location of the slide lever.

CZ annoyances = The slide lever is too far forward and out of reach.

If you need mags for a Sig, I recommend Mec-Gar over the Sig brand.

Hope this helps and good luck.

This has been my experience as well. I have 2 German 226s - one with the SRT and another one that will get it as soon as I can track one down. My wife has a Shadow which she loves to death and I think is a great gun. For me, I find the Sig just fits my hand better, however, I am still more accurate with the CZ.

If both fit my hand equally well, I would go with the Shadow.

I have the same gripes as Red Seal on both guns, but I like the Sig sights better. I will qualify that, as well, by saying that I've also had the 226 since new in 1994 and it's just what I'm used to - just a preference.

As gdawg mentioned, I can field strip the Sig in about 2 sec. flat - not that it really matters.

can't go wrong with either, got both, the CZ is is heavier.

like the SRT on the my Elite P226, but more $

go with your budget

I've owned em all. And I prefer the Sig to the CZ because of the grip size. But, after owning about 15 pistols of every type.... I've got a G20 and a G35. I got tired of all the breakdown and scrubbing and all that. Glocks are just easier to strip and clean, and that's my main concern along with reliability. Couple days ago my buddies CZ Shadow went into some kinda permanent lock back... It's off to Wolverine for warranty....

The CZ Shadow is a fine weapon - but I will aways be in the P226 camp.

That being said - there is only really only one Shadow (standard is pretty much the same as the Canadian version) - but there are a few different versions of the SIG.

As someone else mentioned, if you are talking about the Elite and / or the TAC-OPS with the SIGLITE rear night sights and the TRUGLO tritium fiber optic fronts + the SRT (short reset trigger) - my vote would go every time to the SIG.

Once again, budget and 'how it feels in your hand' will likely play more a role in your decision making than any of the two weapon's atributes listed here.

Do the grips alone make that big of a difference or is the ``short`` trigger required as well..............................now I`m curious :)

I wear size 9 mechanics gloves and only changed my standard 2 piece grips to the E2 grip. Personally I don't find a need to change the standard trigger for the short one.

Ya hand size makes a big difference. I need slimmer grips and the short trigger on my SIG for me to reach the trigger properly. As for the CZ I haven't found anyone who doesn't like the feel of it. Try them each out if you can.

I have a P226 and have briefly owned an SP-01. For what it's worth, the fit and finish on the Sig is much better. I also found Sig more reliable (CZ had a tendency to throw brass in your face with some loads). Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the CZ-75 to be honest. I bought a CZ because so many people rave about it but didn't find it to be anything special. Decent gun for the money but that's about it.

The breakdown is the easy part ;)
