Awesome job indeed... Gatehouse should start a thread with a step by step "how to" do you own stock paint job... Man those are sweet!

Hi guys,

Wow, there's a lot of nice art here, or should I say very very nice, now I am in the move to start one myself....because the wood on my old Savage does not look in anyways close to Ted's beautiful wood and grain...keep going :) .

Krylon does a really good job on the wood but on metal, barrel and scope...are you guys using the same thing? What for preparing the metal before painting, washing, primming, do you use a special undercoat to stick to the glossy finish of the scope or the same used on the stock?

Thanks

PaulT

I just degreased everythign with rubbing alcohol.

Used Krylon spray paint for everything.

The only real issue I've had is around the muzzle. I usually tape up my muzzle, but if you pait your rifle, I'd use finger cots instead.

How about that Supercub? Look better than when you were here last time? :D

Ted

That looks good!!, but you'll have to boot it around the bottom of your boat a few times to give that lived-in look. :)

I shoulda bought that rifle when I had the chance!

Just finished painting my rifle. I'm going to do a lite coat of white on the eye pieces yet.

It's a Savage model 10 FCM Sierra short action chambered in 243 scoped with a Elite 3000 4x12AO.

This will be my walk around calling rifle for predators. Got kind of tired lugging the big heavy barrel around.

OK, I just had to have my try at wintercamo.
Browning A bolt 243, and my 10-22. I know what your saying about lugging the HB Booner. My Abolt is a little over 7lbs loaded with 5-15x50 3200. Its like a toy. I can walk comfortably all day with it.
My 25-06 below is a semi HB. (same barrel contour as my 338 win mag ruger) But at 10.5lbs scoped and loaded, its not a light carry all day gun like my 243.

And Besides, it would be sacreligious to paint such clean "Old" factory wood. The stock is mint on the 25-06, hardly a scratch and its an old Tang safety model. It would be just wrong to paint it.
