PAL "in progress"

I called the CFO office today for Alberta, very friendly lady on the other end. She told me they have a bit of a shortage of firearm officers at the moment for the province, so it could be slower than normal. Today was day 28 for me, and she said to call at months end to recheck the process. Just figured I would give you other Albertans a bit of a heads up.

Friend of mine is still waiting...

PAL/RPAL application recieved 2009/03/20
Refrence check's done end of April
Called Miramichi about the end of May said call back in a week
Called June 1st and transferd to B.C. CFO and got runaround
Called june 8th and was told not to call again untill the 26th as the app was emailed to a CFO on April 15th for review... was also informed that all RPAL app's (atleast in BC) are being double checked by a provincial CFO.

So if your on the waiting list in BC i would suggest you call call call untill you get some answers.

several calls a few weeks apart to the CFO and the application was approved today... 2009/03/20 to 2009/07/13

just shy of 4 months in BC with perfect paperwork, clean history and a very recent CSIS lv.A clearance... how some of you do it in 28 days is beyond belief from my point of view.

Wooo! 31 days from the time they recieved my "correct" information it was approved. One of my references even waited a week before getting around to calling. I called the cfc yesterday, told it was waiting to be approved in Alberta and was told wait until after the 45 day mark had been passed to call again. Today I called the cfo for Alberta, a very nice (and very busy sounding) lady emailed the cfo (I'm getting my RPAL) and it was approved hours later. Now the daily mailbox checking begins...:D

P.S. As soon as the online status changes, to "has completed initial processing" give them a call to do your interview, they will give you an extension # for your references to call. After your refs have been called wait a couple days, then call again to see if it has been given to the cfo of your province, if so call them. These few steps seem to speed things up tremendously.

31 days for me in Ontario. I was told that the website can lag behind the progress at times. It took two weeks after I know they got my application for the first message to appear and then slam bam, thank you mam , it was all over and my plastic is in the mail. I'm still biting my nails until it arrives. The Ontario CFO gave me my number on request but that wasn't enough for my dealer. I understand that some may sell with just the number and reasonable proof of approval but not this one. I'm sympathetic as the whole process is so aggravating when a boy wants to have his toys NOW!

Nice, I called a few times and they wouldn't give me mine before mine came in the mail. I guess it doesn't help if they won't accept it though.

The only problem that I see with my PAL proccess is that I sealed my envelope then realized I forgot to put in my signed photo (Yes not one of my brightest moments...) Anyways, I opened the envelope, and put in the photo. I resealed it using Tuck Tape - the red stuff. I hope Canada Post doesn't have a problem with that.. Also I was so excited I forgot to put a return address on it aswell. You guys think any of this might pose a problem? I know the address is correct - the envelopes we recieved from the PAL instructors were already addressed. So someone please put my mind at ease and tell me not to worry so I can get some sleep tonight

quick turnaround

Day 29 today, so days 27 and 28 not business days. Just checked this morning and my PAL has been issued and in the mail. No calls to me or references!
(and I'm in southern Ontario)

July 29: They called me and both my references, they said they are transferring it to the CFO in my province which can take up to 28 days.

From experience, how long do you guys think i'll be waiting from this point?
I am in located in Alberta.

Thanks

July 29

Its been 7 days since I mailed in my PAL to RPAL application - has not been received :(

Keep waiting man... read this whole thread and you'll get an idea what is to be expected.

Plus, if you live anywhere near a big city (well, at least in Toronto), be prepared to find it even harder to find the right club for you. Even if you have all the dough in the world, some clubs will put you on probation longer than it would take to get your RPAL.

I'm trying to think that waiting is 1/2 the fun but it ain't. lol
