PAL "in progress"

Site just updated this morning. It was sent on July 10.

Application Received on: 2009/07/16

Is it still advisable to call them around day 30 (for interview and # for references), or should I wait for them to call me?

Keep waiting man... read this whole thread and you'll get an idea what is to be expected.

Plus, if you live anywhere near a big city (well, at least in Toronto), be prepared to find it even harder to find the right club for you. Even if you have all the dough in the world, some clubs will put you on probation longer than it would take to get your RPAL.

I'm trying to think that waiting is 1/2 the fun but it ain't. lol

Dude... what ? probation ? I've been to a couple local clubs and other then being surprised by the fact that one of them has a proximity card entry and no staff on site.. no one has said anything about probation...

by "the right club" what do you mean ? Im planning to become a member of an indoor / outdoor club that has a big bore rifle range as well...

Do you live in the Toronto area? Doesn't sound like you have any issues... Maybe it's Bantario related!? If you do, I want the name of this CLUB! :) As I mentioned, I speak for clubs around Toronto. Most clubs clost to Toronto appear to have some sort of probation (some minor, some insane), meaning that you must be supervised X amount of times before you can shoot on your own. Example, it could be 6x say for rifle, and another 6x for handgun. And then you have all sorts of calibre restrictions for the indoor only clubs. I plan to shoot all kinds of firearms so just an indoor club is no good for me. One indoor club even forces you to observe other people shoot on 6 shooting disciplines. I just read that somewhere here. Not sure if it's still the same now!

The only club that appears to have no calibre restrictions and to be a full member requires 40 mins saftey course and 1/2 day course for ATT. IT's Silverdale. I'm going to check it out soon since it's a public range too. For only $20, I can fire my non-restricteds without being a member. I wanted to join Sharon since it's only 35km from me but they don't have any safety courses available until next spring/summer. I also need to find someone that would sell me 1 share of the club for $1k.

I envy those that only pay $50-100/yr. Not in the Toronto area. :-(

sent mine in june 6, talked to a CFO rep and she said it could take up to "another month or two"....wow. ive been waiting for 2 already.

Called the CFC today. They received my app on June 29th. They completed thier part and forwarded the app to the Ont CFO for final approval on July 28th. The girl at the CFC said to call back if I don't see anything in a week or so...

We must be dealing with the staff taking thier summer vacation time. The two weeks I waitied to get the stamped resaults back from the Ontario CFO before I could send in my app put me smack in the middle of summer.

28 days is good time, congrats. I had to call the actual officer today, finally got a hold of him. Asked him about my status, he said it would be there in 2-3 weeks. Looked online later in the day at work, and finally updated to reflect that, only took 59 days, lol.

Sent the application on July 9 and received on July 14. Interview and reference check are done two weeks ago. The status changed to license issued today, exactly 28 days after they received my application. I'm in GTA, Ontario and my application is for both non-restricted and restricted.

CFC received my app on July 13 - PAL issued Aug 10th - waiting for it in the mail. That's 28 days plus delivery time - no calls to references.

Called today as my Rpal app has been in thier hands for 45 days. The lady from the RCMP told me that my app was complete and sent to Ont CFO for final aproval. She then gave me my file number and connected me to the Ontario office, I spoke to another lady there.

I was told that they were working through a "bit of a backlog" and had not got to mine yet. She looked it up, mentioned it was all in order, then mentioned that she would give my file to an officer for final approval and it should be done in a day or two.

Maybe BS maybe not, I'll post when I see the status change on the website but I will echo the comments that have been posted in this thread many times. Be polite and friendly and you will get treated well. In both cases, i didn't ask either lady for more than an update on my app and told them that it had been 45 days. They offered to do the rest and I gratefully accepted.

Good morning, please, and thank you seem to have helped along with have a good day at the end of the phone call. After all these years, I have to admit my parents were right about using good manners at all times LOL.

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

Exactly 28 days. Was not expecting that after hearing it taking 2 months+ for some people. They phoned for the interview on the 5th and the references called on the 8th. Should have the licence in 3-4 days now. :)

Now to make that first purchase...
