PAL "in progress"

Working in a licensing department unrelated to firearms and knowing how we react when inquiries come in and reading this site for pointers made a big difference. I did a Pal to rpal upgrade and sent it registered mail April 9th and it was marked received in NB April 12th. I called later that week to ensure they got it. Next day it was on the website. I called in on April 20th and asked to do my interview and was given a reference and xtension for my references to call. They called that day. I called this morning and they said it was with the CFO. I then called the CFO in Ontario and they told me it only arrived a week ago..3 hours later my licence was issued. Note that this was an upgrade so no 28 day waiting period so from receipt in Miramichi to my licence being issued was 2 weeks exactly

Just so you don't cry at night, it'll be another 4 months at the least before you shoot a pistol at a range. (if that's what you want to do). Getting your RPAL is half the battle, the other an most often longer one is getting in a club, and getting the LATT.

No crying here. It's not that big a deal. But you're right that there are a lot of delays built in.

Why would it take that long to join a club? I filled out the application for membership at a range a while ago and gave them the membership fee. They then issued the membership card. I already had a POL.

I can see that it will take a week or so to transfer ownership if one wants to buy something. How about the ATT? Why would there be a delay there? I heard that it's real long in Quebec but not much on the prairies.

Got it Yesterday!

They recieved March 18th
References contacted March 26th
My interview March 29th
In the mail April 16th
I got it April 26th!

Woohoo!

I mailed in my PAL application Apr 12.

Today:
Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

I wonder what they ask you during phone interview? And what kind of questions they ask your references as well?

They'll ask you all the questions that are on your PAL application, such as, have you ever been prohibited from owning a firearm, job loss, etc, and ask your references if you have threatened people with violence, or if you are considered by them to be a violent person.

They also want to know how long you have known your references.

good service

Well I might as well tell my story since im a newbie to restricted firearms..

I mailed my application away on March 25th regular mail and it was recieved on April 1st.
I called back on April 12th to see how it was going...There was an issue with my proof of restricted certificate....I took the test back in 2002 under the old legestlation so the form was not accepted at first.....took my form to my CFO here and it was instantly approved as valid......
I waited untill April 26th and called agian....They had not contacted my references yet so I asked my friends to call in.....
April 27th my application was forwarded to my local CFO..
TODAY April 28th called my local CFO to see if everthing was still moving along and she ran my check at 10am and approved my application on the spot.....
10:30 I was down at my local gun store bought an M&P9 and a Ruger SR9 had short term and long term ATT's faxed to the store... out the door with my guns by 12:15..

Totally impressed....

My was received March 30. They did an interview with me on April 16 and called one of my references on the same day. Application status still says completed initial processing. Can't wait!!!

I called today to inquire on the status of the application and they told me that they tried contacting my second reference, but could not get a hold of him. I had my reference call in right away and it was approved on the spot. :dancingbanana:

I remember when my friend first got his.... took almost 100 days! And i was one of his references and got a call a pretty much the last minute u.u I hope mine will not be like that...
The fastest way is to call them, get your application number and extension (also do the interview), and have your references call in with the application number through the extension.

Did you already have a card? I was told by the Sask CFO that one can't buy a firearm until the card comes in the mail, even if one knows the card number. I currently have a POL and am told that the RPAL is in the mail. Do I need to wait for it to arrive before making a purchase?

The CFO told me my number would be the same....I already had a PAL.....My new RPAL card is not here yet but the CFO's computer recognizes i have the RPAL and the dealer just called in to register my new hand guns and it all went thru without an issue.....So I would guess you dont have to wait for the new card

I double checked today with the CFO and they told me one can't legally be in possession of a firearm without actually having the card. Transfer of ownership can take place while the card is in the mail, but one can't transport or have the gun in one's possession. Two different agents have now said more or less the same thing.

Maybe it's like driving a car and not being able to produce a driver's license. They can write you a ticket for not being able to produce your driver's license. I guess I'll wait rather than risk problems.

well you should do whatever makes you feel comfortable....But IMO if the CFO transfers the firearms into my name then issues me an ATT that must mean I'm good to go...If you phone and asked and they said no there must be a reason......but not reason enough to stop me...My new guns shoot awesome and I just ordered a Glock 17 in OD green today......I dont know why i didnt get my restricted back in 2002 when I passed the course... Hand guns are alot of fun and a new challange is always the game for me....What part of sask are you from swampdog?

Where do you buy handguns in Regina? Are there any shops with much new or used in stock? I'm not far from Saskatoon, which at least has Wholesale for buying ammo, etc. But they don't have much in stock for handguns.
