PAL Wait Time

Yeah, I keep seeing that people go straight to "completed initial processing" my card was charged and then it just says received. So I guess I am one of the "lucky" ones that will wait months for this :( . I just saw someone that was approved a couple of weeks after the CC charge.

Ya it appears its nvr goes by first come first serve when applying for a gun licence in Canada or maybe any country for that matter.

Its a terrible system if you ask me as some wait months.. some wait years.. and some wait only weeks. Fair is not even a word i use anymore for systems like this and neither is equality a word i use anymore as there is no fairness or equality when applying for a gun licence.

Be patient is all and maybe once a month if need be mail your CFO to what the status is of your application.

if you read the previous pages you would see a guy has been waiting for over a year (18 months as I remembered). I am the one who Mailed in 19-Dec-19 and cc charged on Jan 8, 20. My background check is with Peels Police right now, I have the number also extension but believe it or not I called many times and always go to voicemail, I left message with my cell number and never gotten a call from them.

I have talked to a friend this morning and he told me I would wait forever with Peel Police for backgroumd check.

Ya the issue is the RCMP will have any charges you have had or dismissed or withdrawn charges or convicted ones in their own database. So why is the need for local police to do a check.

Anything i was charged with were all withdrawn before ever seeing a judge .. withdrawn as was proven they were false allegations... so why the hold up i do not know. I am not impatient just a little confused as to the process of owning a gun licence in Canada some get theirs no problem who have had charges and convictions on many matters.

I have No Criminal Record, but appears we are all criminals in the eyes of the law when it comes to obtaining a gun licence in Canada.

I am the one that has been waiting since March 2019. They received it on March 21 2019 and appeared on line on April 11 2019. I am stuck at the "initial processing" (16 months)

I call the BC CFO around every 3 to 6 months. Maybe i should have been calling every month (but i heard that can flag you too). The last time i called (end of April 2020) is that i am at final stages and CFO is going over the letter i wrote.

the hold up seems to be a bout of anxiety / panic attacks i had in late 2007 (after my mother died suddenly). By late 2010 all was well. Going to call the CFO again soon And after that will call every month.

My background is perfect. and nothing on it. some constructions sites like OPP building or Police Headquater they always require criminal record check to get to work on jobsite.

Ah i c yours is job related, mine is cause of some dellusional people that have nothing better to do but try and cause problems for others, well they tired and failed, but this is now i assume my hold up, but then again i have no record except it will show withdrawn even in the RCMP's data base so in reality whats the hold up a ten minute check is all.

In your case that is a long time to be waiting and i agree once a month may flag you too as why so impatient.

I hope the review yours asap as its been over a yeat for you.

Application sent March 16th,2020
I called July 9th and the guy said that my application has been received and initial check of information was good-no info missing. Credit card was charged . July 9th also.
Still nothing on the website.
I had called last week and a lady said that they are backed up with processing and printing and had no eta for my status being updated on the website. She said call back in a month . Wait and see I guess. I’ll call the end of this week and see why they say. Also, it really depends on who you get on the phone. Some of them are really nice, others it’s like you are wasting their time and they don’t even want to talk to you #♂️

The last part of your post is so true, that being said the people your calling is like a call centre for the RCMP so they only really know what you know and not much more.

Emailed Ontario CFO and was told:

-There are over 6000 applications waiting for us to process.
-Due to COVID19 we have minimal staff to complete and conduct background investigations on applications.
-It will be a while before we get to yours.
-Generally for Ontario we inform clients it can take up to 6 months or more before a licence is issued.

6 months wow sent mine in Jan 45 day min would put it around mid April 1 week to go but covid shut er all down. so 6 months if that is true and now since i have been seeing applocations done from Jan.. feb.. mar.. april.. may and june where does the 6 months start from for a back ground check thats a horrible time frame when many of the checks can be done in 10 min per application.

Also goes to show its not first come first serve.

I am wondering if CFO has several sections on where to place an individuals application. What i mean is, if one applied and then never called in to check on things. Does the file move to an "inactive" we will get it (maybe) some day. They hope you never call in and just forget about it.

One of the last times i called in. I was put on hold for several minutes while the call taker contacted the CFO. It (i had high hopes) appeared that they were actually going to transfer me to the CFO for an interview. But no, rep came back and said they informed the CFO that i called. That I should call back in 2 months if i hear nothing further. So i thought, big whoop! they told the CFO i called. WTF good will that do. So that got me thinking about the ignore pile and active (client still interested) pile.

None of my friends have ever bothered to call in. Maybe calling in sets a red flag.

I’m thinking at this point since they are collecting fees but not entering anything to the system..,,they are just trying to capture as much money as possible and worry about the processing of applications at a later date....multiple people are saying that the payment has been processed but nothing else after that. Just a thought

Well i bet the CFO has a nay or say pile and a background check pile and a pile for the fast track ones.

Now for Ontario i just heard that they actually techincally
have No CFO as the person who was the CFO was promoted in the OPP detachment and is still doing the CFO when convient for them 1 day a week.

They have not replaced the CFO position as of yet and this has been from what i heard for several months now.

There is your backLog people if this info is correct that i heard from a business thats waiting for CFO approval for what they need.

When I called they just said that they haven't touched it yet, so the backlog is with them as well, without even going to the provincial CFO.

So I wasn't expecting anything soon as a friend of mine just bought a new firearm and was told the RCMP were 6100 applications behind, but to my surprise I checked on the RCMP website last night and am told my new license is in the mail. Here is my timeline:

Province: Ontario

Jan 19 2020 - CFRSC Class

Feb 2 - Received Stamped CFO paperwork. Mailed application

Feb 10 - RCMP receives application but nothing yet is posted to the Licence Application Status Results website

Feb 20 - $80 fee charged to my credit card and "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date." is posted to site

COVID - CFO stopped processing applications while firearms analysts WFH

July 20 - "Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000")

That’s good news!

Does anyone know if the place of birth section on the RCMP firearms license applicant page is case sensitive?

Trying to track my progress but they still don't have any information on my application or I'm somehow entering the wrong info. I figured they would have record by now since they charged my credit card.
