PAL Wait Time

For reference

Just for info on the current wait times to get your CFSC and CFRSC class paperwork:
Aug 22 took the CFSC
Aug 23 took the CRFSC
Sept 30 my forms were stamped (saw it on the sheet)
Oct 5 received the final papers from the course (proof)

The above is the “proof” you did the course. Not the actual application.

Just an FYI, only people in Ontario have to wait to get proof of their CFSC from the CFO. No other provinces make people wait to get proof(as far as I am aware).

You can still apply for your PAL in the mean time and leave the CFSC box that says 'proof attached' blank.

It will not hold up your application as the Ontario CFO should send a copy to the RCMP long before they begin processing your application.

Wow, I took the course the same dates as you but mine were stamped Sept 16, arrived Sept 21. Either lazy instructor that didn't send them for 2 weeks or FSESO lost it in the big stack of mail.

Wait Times

What type of license did you apply for?

Was this your first time applying or did you already have a PAL and you got your RPAL?

I took the courses in May 17,18
Pal & RPAL
I mailed it on the 19th express post and received by RCMP out east on June 1st
Showed up online September 15 completed initial processing
License issued October 5th
No references checked and I was not interviewed

I called the Canadian Firearms Program hotline yesterday for an application check and was told although they charged my card (Sept 18th) and have correct information that they still have to finish entering my information in the system!

I was told to check back in another month. Absolutely crazy to think how slow this process is.

Does anybody have insight into the order of the application procedure.

From what I know it goes to the RCMP they basically just make a file for you and send it on the the CFO.

Apparently the police check only takes a couple of days, so what is it they are doing at the CFO if RCMP make the file, and the local police do the CPIC search and any reports on their system?

Is the police check at the beginning of their process or right at the end, I’ve been told my file is complete and with the CFO but it has been for a while, I’m thinking mine might take longer because I’m a fairly new resident form the UK so they may dig up immigration files as they do their own thorough security screening.

took my pal/rpal in Alberta April 28 - sent in the application the following day.

May 4 my application was received
Sept 3 my CC was charged (thanks COVID)
~called to inquire why i could not see my application online. they spelt my last name wrong... the lady said it was flagged and will be fixed. My application is with the CFO, there was no issues with my application and my picture was being processed.

Sept 19 status online read "application has passed initial processing and is in progress" My last name is still spelt wrong but i can log in to review my status using it. (only one letter off..) Im hoping this doesn't add significantly more time to my application.

as of today sept 23 it still says processing, Ill be calling friday if it hasn't changed for another update.

*update*
Called the RCMP today Oct 6. Was told again everything this was fine and it was in the final stages but due to covid to call back in a few weeks for an update... The waiting game continues.

I am in Alberta

People are saying here that they took the classes in April and May. I had registered for April course, but then the course instructor informed us that all courses have been put on hold by RCMP due to Covid. They only resumed the courses in July once they got approval from RCMP. It seems that other provinces were still doing courses when MB was put on hold. Something smells fishy here.

Most Provinces shut down their CFSC program at the CFO level with the exception of Alberta and BC.

The Alberta CFO left it up to individual CFSC programs to decide if and how they would conduct classes.

Manitoba opened before most other Provinces in July.

Ontario opened in the middle of August.

New Brunswick, with virtually no cases of covid-19 and a Conservative government did not open CFSC's until September!

That is very helpful information for everyone waiting.

Actually alberta was closed until mid May. The first course took place in Calgary on May 16

My understanding from the two guys that operate Affordable Firearms Licensing Alberta was that they were never technically shut down by the CFO or Province.

But I don't doubt you, and I may have misunderstood or they may have misspoke, or a combination of the two.

My application was received in miramichi on July 6th, do you guys have any idea on a potential wait time? No red flags, or criminal record at all, just a provincial traffic violation. Also located in Alberta if it helps.
Thanks in advance.
