Parker hale m82-m87-C3-C3A1 Rifles

Savage:
In your pelican case> what are the very small cut outs for? Which one did the Bolt fit into?
regards Tim

Tim,

The bolt actually stayed in the rifle - with the trigger pulled to release tension on the firing pin spring.

As to the really little hole in the foam - don't really know. Following the equipment checklist - there really isn't anything on the list that would fit in there. Maybe somebody modified it for something else?

We did keep the smallarms logbook in the cases as well - used to keep an accurate count of rounds used and any maintenance done.

Cheers, Carl

Savage:
Thank you for the pictures of the kit in the case. just what I needed to see, I shall start on my case as soon as I get my carving knife.

Carl:
Any thoughts on where I may be ble to pick up a Field manual book like in Savage's pictures? What was the the small arms logbook and is it possible to get one somewhere?

regards Tim

Carl:
Could you do some spec measurements on your chamber stick for me. Width of the handle, handle length, thickness of rod coming out of the handle. length of the rod and the thickness of the rod at the tip. If I cannot find an original then I shall make one out of Oak.
I do not see a slot in the end of your's for the patch. Was it just wrapped around the dowel end?
Regards Tim

FMP's are a dime a dozen - they aren't part of the ECL(equipment checklist).

The parallax tool is way thinner and bigger - wouldn't go in the mystery slot. No extra spigot either - not issued, only on the
handstop.

Where the box of ammo is where the rolled up sling goes - never stored ammo with weapons - unless you're using them right then and there.

The logbooks aren't easy to come by - never actually seen one loose out in civi land - some careful digging at shows may turn one up, if you're lucky.

Just a green covered pamphlet that you record the pertinant info in.

Cheers, Carl

Pic of plastic chamber stick

No numbers or makers name on this. One of my wooden ones is Parker Hale.

I did not mean that this was a C3 specific part. It came with an L39A1 that I bought in England.

Well it looks as though Casey at TacOrd is going to get the bolt. It is the only part that seems to be bugging me right now. He will be making it look like the C3A1 handle.
Next on the list will be the 2 piece C3A1 sling. Methinks that may be a more difficult find.

Can anybody tell me the contents of the cleaning kit. I looked at Carls post again and the manual. Saw the green plastic case with the intergral oiler compartment, wire bore brush and jag. What else should be there? Patches? Pull through and if so, which one? Trying to put a complete kit together as I've not been able to find one.

The only thing that was not in the photo's was the pull through - 2 brass ends and white nylon rope connecting them - .30 cal diameter of course - mine is just playing hookey right now:D!

Yes, throw some 4x2's into the kit as well.

This is all the same stuff that was also in the FN C1A1 cleaning kit as well.

If anybody needs the official CF 4x2's, I litterally have like thousands of them - so I can spare a few.

Talk about waste - the supply techs in Downsview were throwing them in the garbage, when I was posted there in the early 90's. I scooped em and to this day still have not run out of cleaning swabs.

They said because we didn't have FN's anymore, why keep them! Guess somebody forgot to tell them that we owned C6 7.62 GPMG's - :D!

Cheers, Carl

I have all of the cleaning kit now except for the case with integral oiler in it.

Carl:
I made a trip to the P.O. on Saturday, Casey should have the bolt on Wednesday or Thursday for the bolt handle and knob work. Then GunCote flat black. Now it's like waiting for Christmas.

Just happened upon some really good closeup pics of an M87's action, so anyone wanting to make a C3A1 build can know exactly what to look for:

Also, pics of an M87, M85 and 1200TX, so they can see what not to look for ;):

I figure with all these pics of bits and pieces, might as well put up the foundation of the real deal.
