Still looking for a barrel for my C3A1 project. Any out there? If not I like to get the profile dimensions and turn one. Been told that the one shown on Norman Clark's website is incorrect. Lots of work however appears to to be the most viable option.

Well, McLennan was supposed to make the replacements (but never did, according to Carl), maybe they can make you one.

Or are you looking for an original?

Looking for an original barrel. I will call McLennan.

I did get some info yesterday on the C3A1 barrel configuration. Here's what I have;

Length 60cm (23.75in)
Weight 2.04kg (4.50 lb)
Grooves 4
Groove size 4.32/4.42mm (.170/.174 in)
Twist 1 in 30.48cm (1 in 12) Right hand
Stress relieved after manufacturing.
Mauser flange and straight barrel; no taper.
Not drilled for sight block at muzzle.
Recessed target crown.

Did not get any info on markings or finish.

Any comments greatly welcomed.

CFTO Set:C3A1

What I have is an original binder set of the C3A1 CFTOs. Since I have no interest in doing a C3A1 build I would like to trade this material for the equivalent C3 material.. Original packages, not photocopies. Thanks, Wayne

What I said was that I never saw one in use. I did know they existed for us as replacements though.

An original PH barrel would more than suit your needs. They are around.

Cheers, Carl

Well as of today I now have the yellow Parker Hale cleaning rod, Jag and 30 cal brush. All that is needed now is a cleaning kit box [on the way] and the round count maintainance book, and the bolt back from Casey. I will then be quite happy to go out and work her out to at least 800 meters. She has shot solid 2.9 inch groups at 600/varget/lapua brass and 168 combined technology Noslers/210 primers.
regards Tim

Hi Tim....glad all the parts are coming together for you....you'll have to post a few pictures once you're ready to go.

Clive Law's book "Without Warning" has some information on C3 serial numbers. On
page 73 he states that the rifles were taken randomly from serial number "21187 and 30519 with most rifles in the 22000 to 31000 range". Does anyone know what the prefix was....I was told and have seen the serial number to be "R- 25###" for instances. Also have been told that this may have been "P"....I'm aware of a later issue that was used by the cadets that fall into this category for fullbore shooting...iron sights...no scopes.
Comments please...anyone know the answer or have any reference material?

Serial number prefix for the C3 has been confirmed as "R". The "P" prefix is for the 1200TX single shot competition rifle. I've recently acquired one of these.

C3 Serial Numbers

Looking at the picture on p.70, it looks like P to me, but it could be R ? There is no reason to assume that PH took them all from the same sequence. Try and magnify it and it turns to out of focus dots. Mine is definately P-38186

We may have to do a check on any examples trapped in the various regimental museums. I will check in Regina's in a few weeks when we are at the armoury to score targets for the Cadet Provincials. My contact for the RCA Museum at Shilo is away in Afghanistan. Will ckeck with him when he gets back. Can also do Moose Jaw and Saskatoon.

Checked Law's book on page 70.and this is what got me thinking...serial number is
"P-78136"....which contradicts his statement on page 73. Scope is within the serial range. There are a couple details that don't look right...no BNP proof ahead of serial number and the bolt knob is full round not flat on the back face as per the CFO's manuals.

There's little info on these rifles so anything the can steer us in the right direction is a plus.

I am trying to help out a friend. He is building a C3A1 replica and has everything but the mag release tab. If anyone has or knows were ther is a spre please let me know.

Thanks redneck

Ok elaborating. My buddy has collected up a stock, barrel, trigger, trigger gaurd, mag, 1200 action, and all the screws to build it. But the mag release button in the trigger gaurd is missing. So I am wondering if there is anyone out there that can help him out with the one piece.
Thanks redneck
