Ive shot my 1860 quite a bit and the barrel hasn't fallen off yet its been 140 or so years since its manufacture and I'm sure at least a couple different owners.

More then likely the guy with the Remington in his holster would rely on his saber, much easier to get a killing strike with that

He would want to save his Rem for re-shoeing his horse "a job by the way I'm sure a Remington would excel at due to its robust brick like design and handling characteristics.


Then after skewering his foe the dashing and logical Remington owner would take the colt from his fallen enemy as he never before handeled such a fine revolver and put the Remington in his saddlebag for use fixing fences and shoeing horses back at the homestead.


But I digress

Hey the Lemat is great....I just dont want to clean the damn thing....all those toggles and little bits and whatnot.

I imagine If you are issued or can afford a lemat "at that time" you have a subordinate trooper on hand for polishing your boots and cleaning your guns.

I wonder tho...is it bad form to cleave a fellas head in two while he's on his hands and knees scramblin to find the wee wedge that dropped out from the heating and cooling of a prolonged engagement...
I guess after putting his saber up he could then use the butt of his Remington to secure the wedge of his new display piece.

It was likely quite common for Colt owners to be outgunned by a sabre

....and after the colt owner's horse was crippled from hoof infections, a passing Remi owner would dismount his healthy steed and use his gun to finish off the horse as the colt`s cylinder was jammed after unsuccessfully trying to hammer the horseshoe back on!

He still swore by the Navy at the end of the war. Between He and Hickok it's hard fo find better endorsements for other models.

1851 Colts are indeed, fine firearms, but .36 cal would be a tad weak for the battlefield....In such conditions, I would stick with a .44 cal....

For cannons...The Napoleon Parrot....12 pounder...Smoothbore...Make of bronze...Makes a great "ping" sound when fired....

wasnt it Custer shot his own horse right from under himself while shooting his old open top colt while at a gallop the wedge started to fall out and as he went to push it back in he shot his own horse right in the back of its head
