PDW builds - Lets see them, and share results

6x35 ammo would be really easy to make. It is just 221 Fireball necked up to 6mm. It is the same as making 300 Whisper brass only a tad easier cause the necking up process is less extreme.

Cases can also be made by chopping down 223 brass.

What I want to know is where can I get a mag to fit 6x35? I'd love to run that caliber in our shorty AR based PDW but the small 6x35 won't feed out of standard AR mags.

It is indeed a KAC PDW. I am holding the 8" barrel version, the 10" barrel version can be seen in the gun safe to my right where that orange tag is.

Sadly I just got to fondle this impressive little thing, it is not mine, as I am sure those who recognized it had already guessed. KevinB took me on a tour of his office, or what I would call AR heaven.

At the risk of making an ass of myself, I would guess the mags are made in house in their plastic department. No clue where the ammo comes from.

Mags for the first guns where actually carved out of a billet of aluminum and then clamshelled together.

The SR635 which is a drop on upper (8" and 10") for the M4 series gun uses a modified PMAG that Magpul did for us.

In Semi-Auto you usually can get PMAG's or USGI normal 5.56mm mags to work with the 6x35 round, in auto not so much.

Hornady makes the ammo to our TDP.

Now where is the fun in that? :)

Maybe we will try it then. I have a barrel blank that would be perfect for such a project. I think it would be wizzy in our bufferless PDW. And it cost a whole lot less to develop than what KAC spent on their PDW :)

Why has know one bought this gun yet, it seems like a home run.. or is it that know one really cares about the ammo debate anymore?

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but isn't the SPEX out of production anyhow?

Claven:

As this is my thread, I will add my understanding of the above.

The Spex break, was a design that Supptin, and others worked on, completed, tested, and perfected under the auspice and employ of Alberta Tactical Rifle. So its their intellectual property.

The original design was a two piece affair that was welded together. The second piece was an insert that contained baffles of various design. It was extremely effective in flash reduction/elimination, along with retention of gas pressure, and was designed to work effectively on shorter barreled carbines. That being said, others found it quite effective on longer barreled carbines as well.

The issue at the time was, that as the Spex was a two piece design, some of the work had to be farmed/contracted to another firm, and this made the production of the Spex, prohibitively expensive. Thus while a great design, the project was shelved until a better/more cost effective production process could be implemented.

Wheather this latest version shown in the pictures above is an inidcation that the "Spex" project has been taken off the shelf, or something again all together different is only a question that ATR can answer.

As stated above the above is simply my understandings of the happenings at the time, and is shared here on a "with out prejudice" basis.

Now, lets get back to reports on PDW's, their configuration, performance and results.

Regards and all the best

The SPEX development units were made by me in my shop. These were a two part unit that threaded together so we could swap out the internal cones. They had nothing to do with ATRS. Thus the intellectual property belongs to me.

When it came time to manufacture them in quantity, we paid ATRS to do a portion of the work. We paid several other shops to do other portions of the work as well. The problem with farming the work out to a variety of shops is that made the entire thing very expensive to produce.

We are currently in discussion with a CDN manufacturer to bring the SPEX back to the marketplace. The plan is to have it all made by one company which should greatly cut down on the manufacturing cost.

They don't own the SPEX so it is not up to them how and when it gets built and sold. They can try to copy the design but it will always just be a copy.

I would go with ATRS...
Why?

1) Big Bonus is there is No ### Skull on the ATRS model.
2) You whine too Much, how many threads now? Go to court, why do we have to listen too it?

Pretty sure that guy has served our country...so until you do or can match that moniker enough to warrant a comment...I'd say he can say whatever the hell he wants.

That's MY opinion.
