Pelican case

well you know what they say about assuming. Anything over $100 is going to be taxed. Secondly, Optimal is a 10 min drive for me so the $80 ship charge is irrelevant for me.

Price shipped to Ontario for a Storm 3300 from Optimal: $377.42
Price from c2csafety: US$265.19 + 13% HST + $5 brokerage + exchange = ~C$300

I'm assuming the case is not subject to duty, which may or may not be valid. So Optimal appears to be 25% more expensive for the exact same case.

Please note that I have included the 13% HST that we pay in this more civilized part of Canada. The only question was whether there is duty owing, and I've since found that these cases are made in the USA so there is none.

Good for you. You're certainly better off getting it from Optimal then.

The Hardigg Storm case is a better built case than the equivalent Pelican. Why do you think Pelican bought their main competition?:)

I think 5% is a lot more civilized than 13% lol.

Thought I would update for anyone interested with a 110BA. I just got my storm case and the 110BA fits! Just barely though. I had to remove the larger recoil pad and put the smaller one on. The muzzel clears by maybe 1/2" with the butt pad fully retracted and against the side of the case. I will take pics tomorrow and post.

Pics as promised.

Been looking around a bit and optics planet has the 1750 for $211 with free shipping to the US. Thinking about ordering one up tomorrow since I have a set of wheels sitting at the border already.

So my new Savage 10 is going to be about 16lbs all said and done and I am thinking the $35 CT case is probably not a good way to go.. Where is the best place to buy a Pelican 1750 as that seems to be about the right size? Best price I've found in Calgary is $269..ouch..

If you are not going to ship it, and you are the custodian at all times, then lugging a Pelican around the range is a pain. I tried a soft case and had a scope zero shift when bouncing down to the 300 M point in my cart.

Best compromise is a light plastic hard case. It can provide enough protection in your pick-up, on the range and it doesn't weigh 25#.

There are lots of nice hard cases out there. I will admit pelican cases are slick. I just got a custom made hard case from another CGN member who custom makes them.. very nice. A bit less $$$ than the Pelican.

Call me ignorant but the way I look at it is that if I am going to dish out $2000 for a rifle, plus a scope, bipod and what ever else I decide to stuff in a case, I want it protected in more than a $30 Canadian Tire plastic case. The Pelican and Storm cases are expensive, but it's protecting a rather large investment for me and I believe it's worth it. Going to the range i'm usually riding in a regular cab pickup with no box cap so if it's raining or snowing then I know it's protected as well. Or if I decide to lug it into a boat and head out on the lake to go somewhere, I don't have to worry about it falling overboard, since Pelican and Storm both say the case has apx 180lbs bouyancy. I think it's a worth while case to have for a expensive rifle, also being secure and durable enough to take on a airline is nice.

Yeah, that's why I bought one. I could chuck it down a flight of metal stairs and it would be fine at the bottom.:)
