It's a good thing that we never had to use these in anger as the max effective range on a T62 tank was 800m with a faint hope of surviving the initial shot. Things improved a lot with the follow on TOW missile, with a much longer effective range, which was eventually provided with protection against indirect fire when mounted on the M113A1.

On a happy note, yesterday I visited a fellow who is faithfully restoring a '74 Pattern M151A2 TOW carrier properly attributed to 2CDO CAR. He has the parachute rigging manual from the Airborne Centre, and the vehicle he owns is shown in almost all of the photos. In fact, there are notches on the streering wheel. Jumps?

Ah yes, the "paper jeeps". I don't know if they have ever been certified for highway operation in any of the provinces. I know that DND was required to cut the chassis prior to disposing of them. Jeeps and pistols; probably killed more of our own in accidents than they did people on the other side.

I guess the Ontario Ministry of Transportation erred when they just registered mine, and the 2CDO TOW jeep, and the one from New Brunswick, etc etc. As long as the vehicle is appraised and passes a safety, as a 38-odd yr old vehicle, it is fit to be on the roads.

I wonder why they were showing only fmj, I guess the ap rounds he apparently had are not PC in his back 40? :confused:

Dang, I hope there isn't a series of pictures after that one. Herr Feldpolizeimann has the look of a middle-school bully moments before punching some poor sap in the nads.

It doesn't look like that picture is accurately described.... Perhaps some sort of Eastern Bloc - German Army/SS auxiliary showing his rifle to the SS Chained Dog?

They both seem much too calm...

I'm happy to be wrong though.

Hope you're right, Fox. As described, I'd thinking the "partisan" would appear far more fearful. Either the caption is kittywhumpus, or buddy's got a set of steel. His expression is less "Oh lord I'm gonna die" and more "Yeah. yeah, yeah, it's a nice rifle. Now give it back and let me go about my business."

That's a hard looking gent. Do reindeer have an adaptation that allows them mobility on glare ice? I would think a WT deer in a similar spot would spend a lot of time on his belly...
