Speaking of experimental types, what's wrong with this Hawker Fury?

Wasn't jet powered, so at a disadvantage for use by RAF in the postwar.
Piston engines at that time did not suffer as did the period jet engines from rpm lag,
so piston engines were preferred for carrier duty until the jet engine technology improved.

That's not a gun, this is a gun. Possibly quoted by Archibald Dundee South Australian Light Horse, grandfather to Mick Dundee. All kidding aside, You sure wouldn't want to dig your toes in if you fired that bad boy!

Power by a Napier Sabre engine in this pic, it also had a RR Griffon with contra-rotating props at one point.
With the Napier this particular aircraft may have been the fastest piston plane that Hawker ever made.
When the decision was made to use the sleeve valve radial Bristol Centaurus in the Fury/Sea Fury development of this model ended. Too bad really but as mentioned the Jets were on the way.

Great for plinking.

There is one of these in the Barrack Green Officers Mess in SJ, NB. Another in the Saint John Mens Club, Byng Boys Room. Neither has the pistol grip though. Those are some old looking Lts!
