Picture of the day

I had the experience on a run down with the C2 of picking up the gun by the carrying handle and having it come apart. The body screw had cycled out over repeated run downs and had not been tightened up.
My other issue with the gun was the too long bipod legs for my short torso, necessitating placing them over the edge of a shooting berm. They also didn't stay locked in the folded position very well.
All in all, it seemed a weapon designed and conceived by a committee with little to no input from the end users, a less than ingenious solution to a real problem.

Most of those old hacks, would out soldier....... All of the today overweight wimpy soldiers, Not talking about JTF2, or Para ,Pathfinders. Which 90%% of you Modern soldiers would NOT be able to quantity for, There was nothing wrong with the C2 or the GPMG, Maybe to heavy for the Modern Girl Type soldiers. In 1974 in Cyprus,2CDO had to send a patrol out to rid the area of snipers, Of 10 men on the Patrol 6 carried C2s, There were no more sniper Action, after Patrol came back.

Yeah, OK Rambo.

I presume you have reason to make such a statement, safely ensconced behind your keyboard.

This 'old hack' does a daily work out that would hospitalize most - push ups, sit ups, one arm push ups, handstand push ups, chin ups, weight training and later I'll be stepping out the door and going x-country skiing. My wife has a similar routine and uses her step climber as well. I weigh the same as I did the day I was discharged and would not have much difficulty passing the annual Battle Fitness test I remember.

And you? I see you live in PG. I live a couple of hours south and west of you and I'd be happy to give you a demonstration any time. Don't let the thinning grey hair fool you. You up for it?

We burn up 200+ rounds a week during indoor IPSC practice (more during the season), shoot both CAS and three gun. I also enjoy shooting my Garand and 'tacticool' .308.
I once owned an MP 40 when it was just another another gun and didn't require a note from mother and a thumb print from God to own. Would that I had kept it and been 'grandfathered' (read: delayed confiscation) when it was possible. That was a piece of work!

The C2 was an abomination from the get go, not making the grade as as a LAR/LMG - in the opinion of many. Scattering a bunch or rds in the general direction of the enemy (especially a rabble of Cypriot civilians) might have the effect of discouraging return fire, but not much else.

Sharps 63....I was referring to line 4 post 5258, I do not hid behind my key board, My name is Donald Mackenzie and I do live in Prince George, I use my real name because I am not ashamed of any thing I say or any of my believes.... I am 66 years old, Not in the shape I was when I was in. 25 years Infantry, 22 of those years in Jump company,s or Canadian Airborne Regiment (2cdo). And I think the C2 and the GPMG were great weapons, for their time.

I was never a soldier. (I was in RCAF) Rifles to me were always interesting pieces of mechanics.

With my Bren, a short burst at 300 yards at a 4 foot square target would always have all hits.

With my C2, a short burst at 300 yards would get one hit. One would hit the dirt, about 25 yards in front of me and I think the others went high.

Based on my experience with my guns, the Bren is a wonderful weapon and the C2, on FA, is a noise and brass maker.

Your guns and/or your experience might have been different.

What I could do well with the C2, is shoot very fast semi auto and put all shots on target. It had a heavy barrel, fair trigger and shot from a closed bolt. I could empty the mag faster on semi auto than by shooting bursts on FA. And i would get 30 hits vs 6 hits.

I'm here for pictures, not cranky old men trying to argue who has longer stretched out balls playing hero on the internet.

Take your walker back to the old folks home and show some respect to our modern forces, of whom there are many on this board.

Insulting troops because you think you have more machismo got passe soon after vietnam vs the ww2 vets.

Get with the times old man.

I hope I am not a "Cranky old man."

I was trying to explain my opinion, based on my experience.

As for pictures, here are some from the olden days when we were allowed to enjoy shooting. No babies were harmed.

Not to take anything away form the old boys from back in the day who soldiered the best they could with what they where issued be it a No4-C1/C2-Sten-Bren-Thompson or whatever but that was then, and now is now. Todays soldier is hardy some wimpy, "Modern Girl Type soldier" in fact I think todays soldier within either Combat Arms or the Support trades is far and away more switched on, physically fit and technology advanced then the old hacks. Staying in contact with old contacts still in uniform and talking to the troops when visiting always gives me the feeling the CAF has come through trying times and come out strong, harder and fitter in all regards. An organization such as the CF/CAF is a living, breathing, entity that is in a constant state of renewal and transformation. Your welcome to your opinion but personally I find it more then a little uncalled dissing those wearing the uniform and making a meaningful contribution in todays CAF.

Your pics bring back memories of firing the Bren gun at Camp Ipperwash as an Army Cadet in 1959. A long time ago. ;)

Nope. Not directed at you at all.

Someone here though thinks he's a hard and tough old man and would like to address our armed forces as weak and wimpy women.

I am now the proud owner of the BREN Jim is shooting in these pictures. The only problem with the transfer is that the piece is still sitting at the RCMP lab waiting for examination. That's nearly a full year now.

Jim Loney.

That would appear to be another unwritten policy designed to further restrict the few full and converted autos out there. Bad enough you can't sell them to the next generation (and recover some of your investment), they now make it risky to exchange them amongst the grandfathered group.

As a lefty I don't know what type of voodoo I would have to work to use it the proper way (at least for a lefty), but I know I would sure try. Its very interesting as every MG I have used being left handed was a advantage as it made more room for the loader closer to the gun (since when laying down my body is completely to the right).

100% tracer, maybe?
