The helmets seem out of place for commonwealth countries in WW2, though they are carrying Lee Enfield No.1's. Perhaps WW1?

Maybe it has something to do with Ireland's rebellion against the commonwealth coming on the end of World War 1. I think Germany tried to help support the rebellion against Britain by supplying weapons. Maybe where the helmets came from?

Irish army used German style Helmets produced by Vickers Post WW1, so probably taken in Ireland and not in the UK.

Training exercise? Tommies in German-ish kit?

I thought the "AA" road sign showing 3 1/2 miles to Blarney in English and Irish Gaelic was a pretty good tip off of where that photo was taken... Ireland was ostensibly "neutral" .. and took injured German military personnel for treatment ...

Saw a good flick a while back re: Irish Internment Camps during WWII .....

The story line was that the RCAF pilot was shot down by a Luftwaffe night fighter who also crashed due to battle damage. Both were interned by the Irish.

Allied POWS and German were kept in separate compounds. They only came together occasionally in local pubs. The story was about an RCAF pilot and a Luftwaffe pilot that fell for the same Irish Colleen. She chose the Canuck and had a child by him.

Eventually both escaped and returned to flying missions. The Canadian was killed. The German survived the war. After the cessation of hostilities, the German returned to Ireland and married the Colleen, raising the son of his rival as his own.

Allegedly a true story. If it isn't it damn well oughta be!
