Britain had tested a Scott Duplex design in 1906, which lacked adequate velocity and exhibited pressure problems. Faced with the new German 9mm MP18 submachinegun in 1918, increased hit probability at short range via multiple projectiles intended to spread slightly again became attractive, and a series of tests, including troop trials in France, were carried out with the Greener Triplex. Results were good out to 300 yards, but work was overtaken by the end of hostilities.
