Picture of the day

Kool Kammo Koveralls...

A Marine in the Pacific, I assume? Notable absence of kit - not even spare mags - and firing from behind something that wouldn't supply even a modicum of cover. Could this be taken on a range somewhere? Some kind of exercise?

This otherwise interesting thread has been badly derailed. I will be cleaning it up; a number of posts are going to be removed.

Interesting photo from the Western Front after it started to become unglued, late in the War, Spring of 1918.

Tank is a German A7V "Sturmpanzerwagen". It had serious flaws in the design department (too much Tank, not enough Track) but it was the best that Fritz came up with in the Great War.

NEXT time, they got it better, just didn't build enough of the critters.

Crew of 18, 57mm gun at the sharp end, MGs all over the place. First action against British Tanks was at Villers-Bretonneux in April of 1918. Following this battle, the Aussies grabbed themselves a couple of rather impressive war souvenirs, the result being that the sole surviving German Tank from the Great War lives in AUSTRALIA.

(The part that is absolutely tragic is that they won't send it to ME!!! Very well: they don't get their Lithgow SMLE back! That'll show them!)

(No, Sally, the skull-and-crossbones does not mean they they were Pirates. And, Billy, it doesn't mean that they were the Waffen-SS either! KIDS these days!)

I really want to scope my 98K just like this... Having a hard time finding a gunsmith that will do it, lol!

Can be done, but costs $$$$.

Period scopes have to have the objective and turret removed to slide scope tube into the correct one piece rings.
Not for the faint of heart.

If you don't mind the question...What's the leather "action cover" {that isn't over the action}? I've never seen a Mauser with this piece before. I'm also surprised that the Germans didn't incorporate a riser to the butt stock as the scope looks awful high {chin weld :D}

wrecked German A7V Tank and likely was taken at the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux in April of 1918.
Battlefield pickups.
As you can see- Canadians were there as well.

Rear sight covers. Germans believed in still being able to use irons sights accurately.
The base of the turrets mounts have a channel in them to allow the use on the iron sights with the scope mounted or unmounted.
Turret mount is good enough to allow the scope to keep it zero very well with repeated scope on- scope off changes.
Cheek riser would make it more difficult to use the irons.
